Breaking FREE from the Insanity and Stress of CHRISTMAS COMMOTION with Positivity and Integrity! (Includes POLL)
POLL: How Do You REALLY Feel About Christmas Commotion?
I am totally into the whole Christmas thing and love splurging and gorging. OP needs to die.
I like time with family, enjoying food, and a few special gifts
I grin and bear it and go through the motions because I have to.
I get blown away wasted and manage to get through it somehow.
I manage to endure it somehow, but am secretly planning a five state ax murder spree all the while
I already do not observe Christmas for religious or cultural reasons.
I am broke and cannot afford Christmas anyway
I am proactively stepping away from or drastically scaling back on Christmas this year
 Blank (View Results)

Husband and I have completely and proactively taken control of our lives and simply stepped aside from any and all Christmas commotion.

Anyone can do this! Even if you believe you "have" to participate, you too can take positive control and step aside from the insanity.

Start now, before Thanksgiving! Let every word out of your mouth regarding Christmas be gracious and positive.

State simply -- first to family, then to aquaintances -- that in the interest of simplicity and good mental health you are just stepping aside from any involvement in Christmas. Announce it like the good thing that it is --positively! -- just like you would announce that you have quit smoking, lost 30 pounds of excess weight, or gotten a promotion.

You are not only liberating yourself, but liberating others!

Wish good cheer and a happy day to all who choose to observe it. Emphasize simplicity, reflection, and de-stressing when you discuss your own choices.

Plan your own wholesome, solitary activities -- or lack thereof -- for Dec 25th! Taking a hike in the quiet woods, go birdwatching, or curl up and read a good book. Rake leaves or prepare ground for a spring garden. Cut firewood, paint the shed. Go running, or work out with weights. Clean house, or do home repairs undisturbed.

Make it your day for quiet, contemplative activity or relaxation that puts you in touch with nature or the simple humdrum rhythms of life.

Graciously thank everyone who invites you to Christmas events. Forthrightly explain that you appreciate the invitation, but that you have other plans. And you do have other plans! Satisfying ones!

Don't get up on some high horse about it. Explain your choices simply and forthrightly.

If the discussion gets around to giftgiving, just plainly, firmly, and kindly state that you are not giving any. AND state that if anyone mistakenly gives you a gift, that you will first offer it back to them, and if they refuse it, that you will donate it -- unopened -- to a local charity.

Hold firm, and do not give in to emotional blackmail, threats, or whining. Hold your ground, then hold it all the firmer. Get to where you can speak from the heart, the mind, the rational intellect and the gut all at once, and with conviction upon the subject. This may take practice, but it can be done, and done in good spirit without malice.

Yes, you will have to earn your freedom. Your decision will likely "cost" you broken family relations... with the people who don't give a shit about you anyway!

You will likely find yourself much respected by the few people whose opinion you really care about.

You CAN reclaim your integrity! Just graciously say 'Thank you, but NO thank you' to Christmas commotion.

My husband and I do the same for all the pagan holidays. So dishearting to see most people so mislead. All that money wasted on material gratifications. ): We don't really celebrate our birthdays or anyones else either. We do recognize our wedding anniversary though (: Anyway, Courage and Godspeed to you and God bless you and your family!

For those voting that they are scaling back or stepping aside from Christmas commotion this year, how have you come to that idea, and how is it working for you?

How does it "feel"? Do you feel awkward about it, are you ostracised or condemned? Or do you feel liberated, a greater sense of integrity?

I get some reactions of condemnation (from other women, never from men), but I end up feeling all the more liberated and uncomplicated, more comfortable in my own skin after these conversations.

When I was a kid the whole extended family of 30 or so would pack under one roof at three different places. (dad’s side of the family, step-dad’s family, and finally mom’s side for the rest of the evening) It was a hugely stressful and very long day.

Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of the birth of Christ and it is also family time at our house. In recent years, we have really scaled back gifts, huge meals, and massive numbers of people. We still go to my mom’s and dad’s separately, but extended aunts and uncles and cousins each do their own thing now and we aren’t carting $100’s in shopping bags or pounds of food for hundreds of miles anymore. Lunch and dinner are light as are the gifts. At my mom’s house, my step-dad reads the Christmas story from the book of Luke. It is so much more peaceful and I believe respectful of the celebration of the birth of Christ.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Many people around the world are in the same situation.

I feel that I am freeing other people from the idea that they have to buy or do anything for me.

With some folks there can be a kind of mutual sigh of relief when they find out I don't "do" Christmas.

I don't do calendar date festivals, the calendar is pagan anyway, I just have a quiet day, might say a few prayers or listen to some hymns. I don't spend money on 'christmas'.

My daughter who once worked in retail, suggested we skip the holiday bull. I went along last year. WONDERFUL!!

We really don't "do" any of the holiday things.

Thanksgiving is just a day off filled with pizza or pasta for us. No more senseless binging on food because someone somewhere said to.

No more. It's just ridiculous. Holiday music has been playing in the stores here since Halloween.

It just seems to me to be a hyped up media thing anyway.

All the stress and commotion associated with this "holiday" should prove once and for all that it is not a Christian holy day (that is where "holiday" comes from). It's not in the Bible, it's the old Saturnalia, Satan/Lucifer represents as Santa trying to usurp the rightful place of the Son of God. People get all caught up in this nonsense and don't stop to think where this stuff really comes from.

Funny how there's this 2-month-long buildup and then on December 25 or 26 it's over and forgotten. Christmas should be the start of something, not the end. It's all screwed up. This whole world is screwed up from what God intended, and He is more than ready to end it.

I'm not buying much this year. Just simple stuff for close friends and mom. Also I'm working that day hm. It was never a big deal to me just a big pain in the arse with the rampant commercialism. Besides I give random gifts to friends and family throughout the year. :p

I buy mostly survival supplies for the family, try not to spend money with the evil empire (Google, Microsoft, GE, and all the other NWO promoting ass-holes). I feel it is important to continue family traditions, and take every opportunity to get the family together. This year will be tough, because two of my sons will deployed, on the other side of the world. One of them is in the sand box where any display of Chistmas could get you killed. And that's just the "good guys", that we are there to help. I will be glad when the whole family is back together. Then we will have a bigger celebration. Usually, that means another pig dies, and we serve pork to about a hundred friends and family. Merry Christmas, and please remember why we have Chistmas, it's not just the gifts.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Re: Breaking FREE from the Insanity and Stress of CHRISTMAS COMMOTION with Positivity and Integrity! (Includes POLL)
I only buy for my kid. I then donate the huge chunk of cash I used to spend on my ungrateful greedy extended family members to charity. I still get together for Christmas functions with the extended family but I do not give gifts and they know not to give anything to me or my child. There is nothing you can buy for any of us anyway and "gift giving" got to the point where we were all exchanging cards with the same amount of cash in them. I was like screw this, lets all just keep our cash and call it a day. My refusal to participate in gift giving has irritated my extended family but oh well. I always tell them how much donated to charity with them in mind. That seems to especially piss them off since they are all so greedy.

When it comes to functions I do contribute to the cost of paying for the food since I am not one to cook. I also always bring something in addition to helping pay for the meal.

I'm not buying any presents whatsoever this year. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Balls to the lot of 'em.

I will be cooking a good dinner for the family and we will spend the evening at a small party at a local club where we've all been invited to bring our own food and drink to share.

The crass commercialisation of Saturnalia is an offence to whatever god(s) you choose to believe in.

Round here the stores started with the Xmas sales crap in August so as far as I'm concerend they can stick it up their ass. Never again.

After all of this 'presidential' and other stuff today, I absolutely will NOT buy one thing of a Christmas gift nature AT ALL.

I will NOT fund these NWO companies who want to kill, steal and destroy us.

I heard an AT&T commercial on the radio today that absolutely made me want to heave. I was in my car and obviously could not do that. Heh.

They were saying what wonderful gifts their products would make for the "holidays". Hahahaha. Not only are they members of the illuminati and their representative always shows up for their summits, I do NOT believe in the agendas they support and never have.

Let them eat their twindling bank accounts. I hope and pray many others take this stance.

Christmas is not a command from God but a tradition of men so we don't celebrate for religious reasons.

I get my shopping done for Christmas by August or September. My husband and I both love cooking and entertaining so its not stressful at all for us. Whether its a holiday or Holy Day depends very much on the eye, and soul, of the beholder. Our biggest Holy Day is the Feast of the Epiphany, not Christmas.

The Christmas season is the least stressful time of year for us. We focus more on the "smell" of Christmas because nothing triggers a memory more than that. I love to bake and make candy so, there's always those special treats that are reserved only for the holidays. We have a tradition where everyone opens a gift on Christmas Eve, it's a pair of pajamas that we wear all that night and all day Christmas. I'll have wassail in the crockpot so that smells up the house nice, coffee, and hot chocolate. We watch Christmas movies, listen to Christmas songs, and just relax, stuff our faces, and enjoy the day.

Much love to you Good Mocking Bird. I hope you and yours are staying warm and ready to enjoy the early snow. I went to Crest last night and the crazy people were clearing out the shelves. You'd think it was the snowmegedon.

Re: Breaking FREE from the Insanity and Stress of CHRISTMAS COMMOTION with Positivity and Integrity! (Includes POLL)
I enjoy the time with my family. When I do give gifts it is usually something they can use on a daily basis. I see no sense at all in buying the kids toys. They get on normal 2 games for the 3 kids, so they will play together. Along with blankest, afghans, slippers, robes, clothes, and usually things they can use at school, along with a watch or something that is personal.

My husband I usually buy him tools he uses them daily while working, so I buy him more and more each year. This year I bought him a new 2 ton jack, he had been complaining that he needed a new one. And boots, he runs through work boots so fast.

I don't buy stupid things. I think they should get things that they will use daily or at least often. Back when the kids were babies I would buy them diapers and wipes and wrap it up. They were as happy with those as anything else. Sure they got about 5 toys each back then but mostly wipes and diapers.

But I don't get into all of that buying of toys that is the big thing of the year. I couldn't care less what the best selling toys are, if my kids want toys they each can take the $20 I give them and buy some with it.

As for splurging on things in the stores it doesn't happen. I don't get into it like most folks do. I just buy pretty much what I normally would for the kids for their birthdays and give it to them at Christmas, sort of a second birthday for them lolsign

The best Christmases I ever had were spent pretending it wasn't Christmas.

I participate as graciously as I can. I was brought up Christian. But my family is all broken up and the holidays are sad to me. I don't get many invitations. Those that I do receive I try to participate in and be nice. See the kids playing and pet somebody's dog. Try not to drink too much. Feel the relief on January first when its finally all over. For me it starts in November, I have a birthday that is now never celebrated because when they ruined my life they made sure I would end up with no family or friends. There are a lot of people like that out there.
