Quoting: mehitable lives The fatman in Austin obvious reads GLP. Where do you think he gets his material? That's a very good point. I did think that a lot of the radio conspiracy people DO read GLP, but I didn't think of the Fat Man (and his staff) specifically. I think you're right though. Oh well, as long as it's getting aired and more people are aware of it - the more the merrier!!!!! |

(OP) User ID: 7505052 United States 11/19/2013 05:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have noticed it since this year. I thought it was just my imagination. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28125019 Maybe it's a new program. My source has had it happening this year, and the other threads seem to be from this year too, so it might be new, or they're rolling it out. Thanks for sharing! and no....it's not your imagination (wish it were). |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 46431391 Bahamas 11/19/2013 05:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I deleted Facebook a couple of months ago. It was turning into a "look at me" type of thing. Everyone I know I can text or talk to them in the phone. As for the webcam and mic, I put a black tape in front of the lens and deleated the microphone driver. I suggest people to do the same if you want some privacy. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50255374 They have the right to turn your cellphones audio app on even if you turn it off, but only though facebook and only if facebook is loaded. I would assume this includes the desktop computer as well. Again, that's not the problem (although that's a problem in itself). The problem is that the computers and phones are listening to people's private, verbal, non-computer, non-Facebook conversations with family and friends, in their own homes, cars, private property, etc. NOBODY has agreed to that. I can't imagine anyone who would. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 41960357 Chile 11/19/2013 10:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, I got something to say. I've noticed this for quite some time. Not only that, I tried some tests too. I know that they can track internet traffic and relate some ads to what you've been looking for, so whatever I used to test this I never related it to any online activity or spoke in person with anyone. The thing is that I discovered that ads actually change with your thoughts. As crazy as that may sound, I was in almost complete silence when I tested this. Fortunately, I've gained full control of what goes into my mind and what doesn't. What comes from ME and what has been sugested either explicitly, or using some other technology. I can make the ads change into various products and services only by thinking about those things. When I close my mind, take no thought, the ads get stuck or start showing random things which simply don't apply to my interests. I urge you to practice the blank mind state. Let go, let go, always let go. Are you angry? Let go... are you sad? let go... only by letting go, eventually you'll regain control over your mind. |
Anonymous Coward 11/19/2013 10:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | credit cards are also tied to it along with reward clubs. they have all the data they need on you and everyone. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32621395 This is a great point... If you put your credit card on Facebook, they know your name. And say your name is Jim Wong... they would know you're likely Asian, so they might drop ads on you related to that. How do you know you didn't see the ad on Facebook and get basically brainwashed to bring up the topic later? Then went back onto Facebook and saw the ad again? Just a twist. |

My suggestion is to kill the drivers for the microphone, webcam etc. also to tape up the microphone and webcam physically and have stuff that blocks sound and view. Gut the webcam and microphone out. Put machine back together. Install GNU/Linux. Stay away from social engineering sites. Enjoy your piece of mind. Good advice. Another good thing to keep in mind are the trojans some of the chinese manufacturers add to the hard drives... Brand new Seagate hard drives ship with Trojan virus [link to www.geek.com] another case with Seagate and trojans: [link to www.dslreports.com] that of course is no accident at all... Not a brand to be trusted at all. Like Lenovo: Spy agencies ban Lenovo PCs on security concerns [link to www.afr.com] it's a pos brand anyway. Anonymous Coward User ID: 28761162 Canada 11/26/2013 03:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know people are thinking this is theoretically (or even practically) possible, but I'm saying that from what I am hearing....this is actually BEING DONE - the verbal listening and then posting ads to Facebook on the topic that was discussed. Apparently this has happened several times over the past year at least with unusual topics so it wouldn't just be a coincidence. I'm assuming it must happen to other people but they just don't pay attention. Thanks for giving that info on the webcam too, I'm sure it's true. Is there anyone out there who has had this experience with Facebook and the ads? You are right. Not only fb but googl as well. Its in the "privacy policy" says they listen "periodically" for short spurts to ensure services are functioning.... Also notice how sensitive and high quality your phone, laptop, and ear bud mics are? pick up all ambient noise etc... Its all going into the "hive" database. Why? Who knows... Remember... If you have nothing to hide... what you worried about ;) |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 21833582 United States 11/26/2013 03:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Of course. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50587799 For example: Playing games on fb mostly requires FLASHPLAYER. Just rightclick into FALSHPLAYERS optins and look if "Allow audio" / "allow webcam" is active. I bet it is and thats one obvious example. I did this on my old laptop, and surprise! Webcams and speakers were allowed. Got the tip here on GLP. with my new computer I haven't been to Facebook. I disabled my account about three months ago. I too found it to be a waste of time. I don't need to tell my friends what I did over the weekend, because I was with them! All of the technology is distancing us from genuine human interaction. This I say as I sit typing on an internet forum in the middle of the night. Alone. Lol. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 43500689 United States 11/26/2013 03:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is so freaky because I JUST noticed this happening in the last couple of months. In fact a couple of days ago I was discussing something at the dinner table with my laptop open. I did not email it or talk about it online and the next thing I knew there were ads coming up about it. I kept trying to think of where I had mentioned it online but it was strange enough to make me take note of it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 48535786 Japan 11/26/2013 04:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm just gonna throw this out there, it's really embarrassing and not something I ever talk about, not to anybody. This is in fact the first time I've even written it out, I haven't googled it or anything, just thought it and noticed it. These last few months I started getting some pimples on my behind, for the first time ever in my life. I'm almost 30 years old and never had it before. Then, suddenly I started seeing ads for a cream here in Japan that is for that specific ailment, not for anything else. I thought this must be really crazy, that Facebook could know something so personal about me to show an ad like that. |

Master/dealer becomes server While slave/addict becomes client You all were given the Internet for free at the start to get you all hooked. Now you are entangled in threads like flies in the world wide web of lies ruled by the horror of babble on. The instant you all connected to the Internet for the first time whenever you did. It was checkmate. If you think you can hide on the Internet...You have fallen in love with a lie you believe is Truth.
