I do, but it wasn't me that this happened to. I don't use Facebook so....I guess I'm a lost cause for ads. This was told to me by someone specifically about Facebook ads, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were listening on the cell phones too. Anything with a mic. And we can't forget the cameras either.

Thanks for bringing that up, excellent point. Actually I don't think my source has a Google phone, just some kind of really basic cell phone. These seem to be conversations that took place in the house though, among family members.

I don't use Facebook either but I would think it would be a third party ad server on their so related ads will pop up all over the net when you're surfing. It actually happens to me all the time and I know the Android listens and does this but never really thought about the mic on my laptop. I'm sure they're listening there too.

And to clarify, it's not just when you're talking on the phone, it's anytime.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4396096

The Facebook connection apparently is very graphic and explicit as the products or services that showed up were for unusual things. And it's happened several times so it's not coincidence.

What's creepiest about this is that these products and services were ONLY MENTIONED IN VERBAL CONVERSATIONS....NOT on the computer in writing or searching. So...they have mics and programs that can process our private speech for commercial (and other) purposes.

Thanks for your comment about the third party ad server, that's very interesting.
 Quoting: mehitable lives

I know it happens to me all time except the ads are on Youtube (don't use facebook). I alway chalked it up the Android phone because I know it does this. Yes, the ads are very specific and exactly what you were talking about. I know, I know.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4396096

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Do the ads seem to be about topics that were only VERBALLY discussed rather than written or searched (as we know the read all our emails and Google)? I assume it's happening elsewhere besides Facebook, but I have a few sites I use repeatedly and social media generally aren't among them, so I'm probably less aware than the average bear in some ways. Thankfully my source shared these Facebook experiences with me!

Holy shit!!!! YES, this is EXACTLY the kind of thing I was told!!! I was told it was the computer listening, but of course, the phones can also, so YES, this is EXACTLY it. And that story is obviously NOT a coincidence as how likely is it that someone would get an ad on YT about such a unique experience? (for those who haven't clicked on the link the OP tells of an experience where he is fixing a garage door and then goes inside and looks at You Tube where a video pops up about....FIXING YOUR GARAGE DOOR. He realized that the Google phone in his pocket had been listening to him in the garage!!!!)

This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Thank you so much for posting this. My source will be glad to hear that others are having this really bizarre experience!

Yes, verbally. It happens so often I don't even give it a second thought anymore. Last time was just two nights ago when we were discussing buying furniture for our new place. I got on Youtube and sure enough, furniture store ads. it's a regular thing but I almost always have my phone with me. yeah, pretty sad that I've just got accustomed to being spyed on.

Yes, it happened to me with facebook ads. Something I was talking about privately with my wife, no surfing about the subject at all, and a facebook ad popped up concerning the subject discussed. Thinking it had to be a coincidence, I tried to ignore it. It happened several more times, conversations we would have in the car. I got rid of the android phone and my facebook account.

I've had this happen several times, and realize that "they" are indeed listening to us. I have an iPhone, not an android. But I am sure it happens on both. No doubt about it.

WOW, I thought it was crazy when my source first told me, but I know the person is very credible and it's happened several times. So I guess it's a general problem that I haven't really been hearing people discuss in all the talk we've been having on spying in the past year. I think this needs to become an open issue - that we are being openly spied upon by our computers and phones (and God knows what else, maybe the fridge too!) and the info is being used directly and openly for marketing.

Don't they think we'd notice this at some point, or has it just gotten to the point where they can do literally anything including spying on our private verbal conversations in our homes and cars?

We need to tell others - I've already started, but I'm getting that "cocked head" look....you probably know the one...the kind I used to get years ago when I would warn people about Obama....stuff like that, LOL!!!! I guess more people need to pay attention to this!

Re: Audio Spying on Your Computers - Does Facebook LISTEN to us? Be Aware.
I am throwing this out there for thought and discussion. Has anyone had the experience where you have been discussing a topic - verbally - not something you have written an email about or Googled or used the computer on - and an AD comes up on Facebook that day (or maybe next day but usually same day) about the SAME TOPIC YOU HAVE BEEN DISCUSSING?

For example....you might be discussing something fairly unusual like....Filipino geneaology...and an ad will show up on Facebook for something directly related to that. And you only discussed it verbally with someone else in the house - NOT via the computer at all. Perhaps you've discussed something like oh....Smith Brothers cough drops (haven't seen them in an eon) and an ad will pop up on your Facebook that day for Smith Brothers.

I don't know how common this is and I don't see people discussing it but I wanted to raise the issue.

NOTICE YOUR FACEBOOK ADS IN THE FUTURE AND SEE IF THEY REFLECT ANY PRODUCTS OR TOPICS YOU'VE BEEN DISCUSSING RECENTLY.

My point? I think that they are actually listening to at least some of us via the computers and translating part of this information into advertising (that shows up on Facebook). We can guess where the rest goes. I don't know if Facebook has to be open for this to happen, or if it happens anyway. Now personally I NEVER use Facebook so I can't test it for myself. But I have been told this, so I figure you guys are a good test sample.

Be aware of your Facebook ads in the future and see if they reflect anything you've been discussing just verbally recently. this is NOT the same as Google ads that might reflect your email as they read all our emails anyway. This is LISTENING.

Apparently it's NOT that simple as people are finding this happening with other programs as well such as You Tube. You should read that other thread that was referred to in the top of this page (page 2)

Thread: Google is spying on your with your Android phone (Page 2)

Unless you are advocating that we stop using computers, phone and anything else that might have a mic (or camera for that matter in it) such as TVs, maybe Xboxes...maybe other household appliances...it's NOT as simple as not using Facebook. Although of course....people SHOULD stop using FB, IMO. The basic problem, of course, is not that we are using ANY programs, but that our government/corporate/media MIC should NOT BE SPYING ON US!

I completely understand as many people can only believe when it happens to them personally. I get the same reactions. But because this is a societal thing and will affect all of us, I think - we - the ones who are awake and know what's going on - have to keep telling the sleepers until they join us. It's frustrating, but it DOES work as more and more people are joining us each year as the system becomes more nakedly corrupt and dysfunctional. Our numbers ARE growing.

I see by the numbers that the spies have joined us and are starting to rate this thread negatively. Don't you idiots realize that you give more creedence to things when you do that? Also....do you REALLY want to live in a country where YOUR conversations - your private, verbal conversations...are being listened to, recorded and processed for whatever means?

Do you REALLY want to live in that kind of world? Do you think YOU'RE EXEMPT. You're not, you know. You're a slave like the rest of us, only more so as you don't see your own chains. You think you're the one who runs the plantation, but you know what that makes you? Just a higher class of slave. That's all.

well most modern laptops have built in mics in addition to the plug in mic socket.. so its theoretically possible that facebook are listening.. and if its not that, well i think op is waking up psychically and manifesting these things, a real possibility, it happens to me not with facebook ads tho (i dont spend much time there) just finding stuff generally online about what i was thinking about or discussing.

Oh, I think it's a BIG OLE SECRET that most people have NO IDEA that their private, verbal, non-computer, non-phone conversations in their own houses and cars, are being recorded and used for various purposes, including selling crap to us. I don't think most people are really aware of this at all, or that they would agree to it if they were!!! Awareness of this needs to grow as this spying MUST STOP.

OP, this is absolutely TRUE!

I've stated this before and even the mobile app states that it will have control of your camera and mic.

Here's a snap shot of the 42 screens I captured that list the terms of the app for android.

Look at the last image to the right, it states, "record audio". [link to postimg.org]

This has happened TIME AND AGAIN, when I was JUST talking about something and upon going into google, I will start typing something and there is the EXACT thing I was just talking about.

I mean, really obscure things at times too!

Good catch OP. I think I've mentioned it on here before but, I'm not a registered user and my stuff seems to get glossed over as a result.

This is not psychic at all, and it's not me. And apparently it isn't just the person who told me this as I'm seeing there's at least one other thread with the same phenomenon on it.

This is about the government/corporate entity spying on all of us, and our private conversations in our homes and cars and using that information to sell us stuff (and I'm sure for other purposes).

There's nothing psychic about that. It's as real as a wooden table...or a computer.

You can block your cam/mic being activated remotely at any time - just follow the simple instructions on this thread:

Thread: Guys, I have figured out how they turn on your webcams and mics to spy on you...AND how to block it permanently.

Also, I'd suggest you d/l a browser app. that blocks you being tracked across the web, like Abine Do Not Track Me:

Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing!!!! And for taking the time to make those images! The more of us who share our awareness of this in different places, the more we can arouse anger and resistance against these practices. People may be willing to give up some control to use Facebook or other programs - email for example - but I can't imagine many - if any - people willing to give up complete privacy in their own homes and cars just because they carry a phone or have a computer in the house.

And we don't even know the full extent of what devices can spy on us. Apparently anything with a computer chip could potentially. This could even be...say, the car itself, as many cars are now computerized to various extents. Many household appliances are. And of course, we all have TVS, and who knows WHAT is going through the TV?

So enough of us are experiencing this to confirm that this experience IS true and seems fairly common!!! We need to confirm experiences to each other as otherwise we might feel alone and/or paranoid...but unfortunately we now live in a world this technology is not only possible, but actively being used against us.

Yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I was told. Thank you for confirming this! We need to have as many people as possible be aware of this.

Everyone, please share this thread as much as you can!!

Re: Audio Spying on Your Computers - Does Facebook LISTEN to us? Be Aware.
I noticed this the other day, and went "WTH?".

Bless your heart, I KNEW someone else must be seeing this!!!!

Keep your eye on this with Facebook and see if it seems to be tracking VERBAL conversations you have - NOT WRITTEN STUFF ON THE COMPUTER (like emails and Google searches), and then putting up an ad that relates to it - perhaps pretty directly (i.e, BRAND NAMES).

Keep watching this and tell everyone you know that this might be a possibility and to keep an eye out for this. I know it sounds paranoid but the source that told me is impeccable and insists this has happened several times and about very specific things that could not possibly be coincidences.

I am just trying to see if anyone else has had this experience and to warn people.

Please share. And I love your posts, by the way, Ms. Superduper!!!

I started noticing this just this past year. Ads coming up based not only on recent searches for something like a new car...and the specific model that we were searching! But like you point out, weird ads for things we had recently discussed but did NOT search on the computer. Keep our laptops, smartphones, etc. out of our common living areas.

I wonder if it is possible to turn the mics OFF - at least when we're not using them.

That's the creepiest part!!! We've gotten to the point where we "accept" being spied on with our phone calls and emails and letters but I don't think people realize that their private VERBAL conversations in their own houses and cars are ALSO being spied on. And we don't even know the full range of devices that might be doing this as it could be MORE than just the computer or the phone. Potentially anything with computer chips could be doing this now, so we really have to be aware of what devices are in the rooms we are in and what range they might have.

Hell, maybe we all need to go back to the 19th century! Carrier pigeons, anyone?

School used student laptop webcams to spy on them at school and home

"If true, these allegations are about as creepy as they come. I don't know about you, but I often have the laptop in the room while I'm getting dressed, having private discussions with my family, and so on. The idea that a school district would not only spy on its students' clickstreams and emails (bad enough), but also use these machines as AV bugs is purely horrifying.".....

This article is from 2010. We started placing electrical tape over our laptop webcams, and keeping these devices out of bedrooms, etc.
