I know it happens to me all time except the ads are on Youtube (don't use facebook). I alway chalked it up the Android phone because I know it does this. Yes, the ads are very specific and exactly what you were talking about. I know, I know.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Do the ads seem to be about topics that were only VERBALLY discussed rather than written or searched (as we know the read all our emails and Google)? I assume it's happening elsewhere besides Facebook, but I have a few sites I use repeatedly and social media generally aren't among them, so I'm probably less aware than the average bear in some ways. Thankfully my source shared these Facebook experiences with me!

Yes, verbally. It happens so often I don't even give it a second thought anymore. Last time was just two nights ago when we were discussing buying furniture for our new place. I got on Youtube and sure enough, furniture store ads. it's a regular thing but I almost always have my phone with me. yeah, pretty sad that I've just got accustomed to being spyed on.

WOW, I thought it was crazy when my source first told me, but I know the person is very credible and it's happened several times. So I guess it's a general problem that I haven't really been hearing people discuss in all the talk we've been having on spying in the past year. I think this needs to become an open issue - that we are being openly spied upon by our computers and phones (and God knows what else, maybe the fridge too!) and the info is being used directly and openly for marketing.

Don't they think we'd notice this at some point, or has it just gotten to the point where they can do literally anything including spying on our private verbal conversations in our homes and cars?

Well, I don't think it's any secret. It's just the way they advertise. They even filed for a patent to do so...
