I don't use Facebook either but I would think it would be a third party ad server on their so related ads will pop up all over the net when you're surfing. It actually happens to me all the time and I know the Android listens and does this but never really thought about the mic on my laptop. I'm sure they're listening there too.

And to clarify, it's not just when you're talking on the phone, it's anytime.

The Facebook connection apparently is very graphic and explicit as the products or services that showed up were for unusual things. And it's happened several times so it's not coincidence.

What's creepiest about this is that these products and services were ONLY MENTIONED IN VERBAL CONVERSATIONS....NOT on the computer in writing or searching. So...they have mics and programs that can process our private speech for commercial (and other) purposes.

Thanks for your comment about the third party ad server, that's very interesting.

I know it happens to me all time except the ads are on Youtube (don't use facebook). I alway chalked it up the Android phone because I know it does this. Yes, the ads are very specific and exactly what you were talking about. I know, I know.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Do the ads seem to be about topics that were only VERBALLY discussed rather than written or searched (as we know the read all our emails and Google)? I assume it's happening elsewhere besides Facebook, but I have a few sites I use repeatedly and social media generally aren't among them, so I'm probably less aware than the average bear in some ways. Thankfully my source shared these Facebook experiences with me!

Yes, verbally. It happens so often I don't even give it a second thought anymore. Last time was just two nights ago when we were discussing buying furniture for our new place. I got on Youtube and sure enough, furniture store ads. it's a regular thing but I almost always have my phone with me. yeah, pretty sad that I've just got accustomed to being spyed on.
