Why do people on GLP not know how to spell or use good grammar?

I see your point, and I agree. Poor communication leads to miscommunication, mistranslation, misinterpretation, and misunderstanding.

My point was not to say that spelling & grammar are the only thing that matter and should always be to perfection. As was pointed out to me, my grammar on the original post was off a bit as well.

It was simply my observation on how it has become difficult to "decipher" some peoples comments due to the "shortcuts" and/or "laziness" that seems to be a part of our printed world now days.

Joking aside, you do have a point.
I for one, since being here have learnt to write and check things better.

It's the conspiracy of black keyboards and thin fonts.

The letters on used black keyboards are thin and turn dark with use and age. Black blends with the background around the keys, and it's impossible to really tell where one key is vs the next. The result is that it's twice as hard to post accurately than if you used a White keyboard.

The other problem is laptops. Black FLAT keyboards on laptops make it almost impossible to type cleanly the first time around. Most of us don't have all day to try to read the DAMN BLACK keyboards.

We're not talking about typos here. This is about people not knowing when or how to use apostrophes, the differences between words like "through" and "threw", etc. It can lead to misunderstandings and require many more words to explain what is meant.

Just try to find an apostrophe on a black FLAT keyboard in a normally lir rooom! You might get colons, quotes, or semicolons.

The keyboards need to be rebuilt. The enhanced keyboard from a 1985 computer was a marvel of ergonomics. Today's are just trash.

You don't understand; people have no trouble at all finding apostrophes! In fact, I wish they had trouble finding them; they use them everywhere, any time a word ends in S.

I'm typing on a black, laptop keyboard with arthritic fingers pointing every whichway. And I don't go looking for apostrophes for every other word.

Im an immigrant, it is not my native language. For me is the fact that I've been studying English since we moved to the US. I haven't been to school here and I haven't worked here. This is all from reading and watching tv at the beginning.
Anyway, I find it very difficult still to express myself .

Speaking of good grammar, would you like to purchase some commas for those run on sentences? Proper punctuation is just as much a part of the good grammar in which you speak.

Of course, might make me look stooopid or unedumacated if I did not say something.

I notice a lot of posts from people from English speaking countries that make lots of mistakes.

I know some don't care.

Sometimes it makes the legitimacy of the post questionable when someone doesn't care to check spelling.

Spelling and grammar are a product of practice. If you don't practice it you will lose your ability.

If you read a book with lots of words you don't understand and don't look up those words then you will have a different understanding of the books contents than one who takes the time to look up those words.

I try to review my posts. Sometimes I don't see mistakes and find mistakes after I've posted. Oh well.
