Why do people on GLP not know how to spell or use good grammar?

I jest, I do exactly the same things as you when posting.

Spellcheck it, run any terms or definitions I'm unsure of through google and quite often edit again after posting for clarity and/or oversights.

I write mad long posts though so I kinda have a duty to make them neat and correct (even if the content is bullshit eh? lol).

The one thing I don't give a fuck about is punctuation, my woman always takes the piss out of my use of commas and my brutal habit of mad rambling run on sentences just like this one where I have to insert ellipsis like this... just so I can take a breath.

I looked up ellipsis just there.

Now I'm going to spell check...

Cause there is many foreigners here. You must know properly your mother language, you'll take a long to speak another very well.

It is about common courtesy and respect and communication, which requires one to think about what they are intending to say and hopefully doing it effectively.

We all make mistakes and I am a lousy typist so frequently mistype words.

First impressions count. If, on first impressions, you can't spell or punctuate correctly, your opinions/thoughts are most likely going to be dismissed. In other words, if you look stupid, you will be considered stupid.

I have a counter question for you, OP. Why do some people concern themselves with formalities like grammar, punctuation, and spelling while missing the message trying to be conveyed? Keep your eyes focused on what's important, like the message. BTW, I hope my grammar was up to your standards.

I think some of it is the spell checker on tablets. I've had it change things on me and I didn't see it before I posted. Now that I'm paying I can go back and fix things. Some people just forget to re-read their posts before they hit the post button.

That said, most have no idea about, or have forgotten everything about sentence structure and grammar.

I don't think I'd ever berate (word of the day) anybody for poor spelling and whatnot, if their point is valid I don't care how they get it across so long as they do.

If an argument is in full flow and you dive on spelling or grammar you open yourself up to being mobbed about that (hang the Nazi! Pitchforks! Boy fetch my torch!) and the debate often gets left by the wayside.

However typos are a different story, if a typo proves to be amusing such as the Typican (he meant typical) I can rarely resist a gentle jibe.

In the case of the Typican I asked if it was a large billed bird the same as all the rest... the boys down at the club thought that was a rather good wheeze what?

Finally if you are going to complain about grammar you'd better be damned sure yours is bloody perfect... as you can see OP you have already been corrected twice yourself.

I used to be ok at spelling when I was in school. But as soon as I left , most jobs were labor or things where I never had to write anymore. So over the years my spelling gets worse and worse. I figure by the time im 60 I wont be able to spell anything lmao.

Lucky for me spelling does not impact my life whatsoever. Still had great jobs in life and made good money.
