Ever wondered what fractals are? Were you puzzled when your friends talk about fractals and felt stupid to ask them? Well don't worry, you're in the right place! Read about the basics of fractals and why they exist. Find out why some of the fractals are so beautiful and colourful and more...!


Fractals can be seen in many places in the world. They particularly interest us because of the shapes produced, the colours used to fill in these shapes and at times, the basic and minor variations on the algorithm (see below to see why algorithms are involved in some fractals).
It should be noted that fractal images are not designed in advance. The shapes come out naturally as the results of simple (mathematical) processes. Slight variations of this process can create different fractals. Some examples of fractal images we see in reality and in our environment includes coastlines, mountains, waves and bushes.

Okay, let’s start with the basics: what the hell are fractals?
Hold your breath for a moment. They’re basically graphs which, however much you zoom in, will always have a complex pattern. A curve for example will turn into a straight line if you zoom in enough but these things will stay curvy. You can also divide a fractal into lots of parts and each of these will look roughly like the whole thing.
