Funny, I've been watching a video series done by Pastor Mike Hoggard of Bethal Church, Feastus, MO on the Watchers/Giants, etc.

He went through the OT, pointing out all the various names/clans of Giants. So, as I watched Michael Heiser's video on that topic, I actually felt smart! hehehe

Not to sidetrack the core topic of this thread, I have to say there is still a lot of controversy as to whether or not the Book of Enoch is Biblical (can be considered as God-sent) or not. Mike Hoggard doesn't not believe in the Book of Enoch as being Biblical, but Mike Heiser does. I tend to side with Heiser on this one.

The only reason I brought up that sidetrack was the fact that the Book of Enoch plays are large role in validating the existence of the Watchers. The Book of Enoch is like a supplemental resource book to the Bible.

Anyways - I will have to look up more of Mike Heiser's videos as this was my first introduction to him. I just wish this particular video was clearer. No matter the resolution setting I put the YT video on, all the text he showed was fuzzy.

Does anyone know if any of his books covers all this, using as many examples and illustrations as he did for that presentation?

Thanks!

I believe the Book of Enoch is at least historically significant, though we have to be careful we're reading the real book and not one of the forgeries. I haven't read the whole thing myself, so I can't make an informed judgment about it being Biblical or not. But what I've seen of it doesn't seem to contradict anything in the Bible or impact the overall message. And though the NT does make brief mention of things Enoch said, we should note that they don't speak of an entire "Book of Enoch". Just some thoughts about that.

But yes, it does supply a lot of detail concerning the meaning of some minimal statements in Genesis. And this is true of many other passages; we rely upon other historical evidence in order to understand more of the context. This is mistaken by some to be an attempt to alter the Word of God, but it is no more altering it than when we use a lexicon to understand the ancient languages.

As for Heiser's books, I'm pretty new to his work as well. As a PhD I'm sure he has books, and I do know he has various websites, some dedicated to a single topic. Yeah, too bad about the poor quality of the video.
