Quoting: s. d. butler [link to www.thecommentator.com] Why isn't the Black Book of Communism on the curriculum of every school in Europe? Because it isn't exhaustive enough? Because its authors lack credibility? Because there is still more to be understood and researched on the matter? At more than 850 pages of carefully sifted evidence by a group of top-level scholars from a variety of countries and disciplines, the Black Book is as solid a piece of scholarship as any other you'll find being taught in our schools. Is it definitive? How could it be? Communist regimes went to great lengths to conceal their crimes, and one of the most oppressive of all, North Korea, still exists to this day. What the book does is use the best available evidence to give a sense of the scale of what we are dealing with. In introducing the Black Book, lead author Stephane Courtois, Director of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris, offers the following rough breakdown of the numbers of people that communism killed: USSR -- 20 million China -- 65 million Vietnam -- 1 million North Korea -- 2 million Cambodia -- 2 million Eastern Europe -- 1 million Latin America -- 150,000 Africa -- 1.7 million Afghanistan -- 1.5 million Communist movements, parties not in power -- 10,000 Same shit is true about capitalism, bro. It's corrupt governments, not economic systems that kill and torture. Or are you too inbred to know the difference between government and economy? |

Maybe you could point to just where "capitalism" killed and tortured millions of people in any way comparable to the murder sprees of communist systems. Or are you just too inbred to know the difference between degree and kind? Last Edited by s. d. butler on 11/09/2013 04:40 PM |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49663850 [link to www.hawaii.edu] Lists all government mass murders in the 20th century. from your link Among all the democide estimates appearing on this website, and in the table on the lower right, some have been revised upward. I have changed that for Mao's famine, 1958-1962, from zero to 38,000,000. And thus I have had to change the overall democide for the PRC (1928-1987) from 38,702,000 to 76,702,000. Details here. I have changed my estimate for colonial democide from 870,000 to an additional 50,000,000. Details here. Thus, the new world total: old total 1900-1999 = 174,000,000. New World total = 174,000,000 + 38,000,000 (new for China) + 50,000,000 (new for Colonies) = 262,000,000. Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5', then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century. |
