A black box in your car? Some see a source of tax revenue
The devices would track every mile you drive —possibly including your location — and the government would use the data to draw up a tax bill.

That's all we need now combined with NSA.

Actually, NC has a mileage tax all ready to go. All they need to do is flip a switch. When we have our annual car inspection, the first thing the examiner does is record the mileage. Your DMV registration would then automatically tax the mileage you used that last year.

These motherfuckers...

"At the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in the San Francisco Bay Area, officials say Congress could very simply deal with the bankrupt Highway Trust Fund by raising gas taxes. An extra one-time or annual levy could be imposed on drivers of hybrids and others whose vehicles don't use much gas, so they pay their fair share."

So they pay their fair share?? Don't you think people who drive those vehicles got them to reduce their consumption and costs?? This is rapidly going from socialism to communism, and they aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

Yep. As for "black boxes" in cars, SF already has FasTrak for the toll bridges, there's no reason they can't track you everywhere with them. It's already in place, and people pay for this "service".

Not to mention other "services" like OnStar that can track every damn thing about you and your car, and even shut you down if they want.

"This really is a must for our nation. It is not a matter of something we might choose to do," said Hasan Ikhrata, executive director of the Southern California Assn. of Governments, which is planning for the state to start tracking miles driven by every California motorist by 2025. "There is going to be a change in how we pay these taxes. The technology is there to do it."

Good points, but we do get to choose to drive vehicles without OnStar equipped. Now they are using the technology to TAX US. I am assuming that it will be illegal to remove the black boxes? Or it will render the vehicle inoperable?

They are grasping at straws now. The exorbitant fuel taxes
we pay (which are supposed to go into the highway fund)
just like the social security we pay is stolen as quickly as it
comes in.

The thieves have tapped us out to the point that we are
putting essentials on the tab. Our tab.
Which unlike the government's tab, has to be paid. BY US.

We are entering the death throes of our socialist welfare
state. Every nation that falls for socialism has, or will enter
this well worn death spiral.

Deceleration is not even a possibility anymore. And they know it.

Only the most draconian steps (as seen from the perspective of
the parasites) could rescue us now,
and that would be political suicide.
Doesn't matter that the national economy will collapse.

The politicians will look out for numero uno until the bitter end.
They always have and always will.

See ya' on the flip side!

Re: A black box in your car? Some see a source of tax revenue
Yup, once gas powered cars are outlawed you will pay a per mile tax, IE there will be no more gasoline taxes to support highway construction etc.

Add to that - sun tax, carbon tax, water tax, air tax, shit and fart tax, food tax, baby tax that will go way up after 2 kids.

Already have a death tax but soon that will be 100%.

seems logical knowing the roads are paid for by dot, department of transportation, and the tax is collected in licensing and road use fees in the price of gasoline.

The less fuel bought, the less tax they pay to use the roadways than anyone else.

I doubt thats where you shall say no however, I think it will be long after the installation of the meters on your sleeping devices.

They already tax mileage, it is in state and federal gas taxes. Gas would cost about 2/3 what it does w/o gas tax so we've already been taxed on how far we go.

Any of you who thought that switching to hybrid or electric vehicles, or even motorcycles, was going to be more affordable, was dead wrong.

Just because you are being sold a "clean" technology by your government and others, does not mean that the gasoline tax revenue stream is going away. The government will murder you for that income. Your job, regardless of what your profession is, is to keep government coffers stocked. That's it and that's all.

The same agenda will be rolled out for people who grow food in gardens -- can't have those folks not spending money at the local chain grocery paying property and business taxes [this applies to farmer's markets, too, really].

In actuality, this already exists.

The fuel tax per gallon is a tax that I (and anyone else that purchases fuel) pay in direct correlation to the mileage I drive and the efficiency/ inefficiency of the vehicle(s) I operate.

Drive more miles; pay more tax based upon the amount of fuel used.

This doesn't apply in Idaho.

We have a community garden in our neighborhood. Another neighbor has raised boxes in his yard, growing vegetables and herbs. I was jogging by last summer and noticed one of our city councilmen (40 years in office) congratulating him on his plants.

I love it here. not a player
