You and Nef are good people for offering that solution Sim. I think it is more than reasonable. And sorry to hear about Mini's BF getting in this situation. But as we say in Holland, while one door closes, another one opens. At one point in life these young people have to start the next phase in their lives anyway.

I am with our dear Kickin's thoughts and remarks and what others said, so no need to completely repeat that myself. I guess what it comes down too is a few key points:

- Are they really mentally ready for it to live together?

- Have they written down budget and monthly costs?
Rent, electricity / gas, water, phone, internet, car, health and home insurance, loans etc. Here is a good link for that:

- Make sure to do some checking on who they rent from, lease terms etc.
Find reviews if possible or ask around. There are plenty landlords around who only have their own interest in mind when it comes to money and not providing the landlord duties when there are problems.

- What happens if one of the two loses their income?

Even though we don't go from the fact that bad things will happen, you also need to think about what ifs. For example: Are Mini's and her BF's job steady without fixed contract terms? Here in Holland it is very rare these days that employers give permanent contracts. Usually it's like six months or a year contract that either gets renewed or not, for whatever reason (satisfaction, economically etc.)

And how is their health insurance arranged with the employer? Do they get paid when they are sick or an accident happens that prevents them from working.

No need to actually reply to that, but just something to think about, especially when it comes to the rent portion of the income. Of course it depends on what your standards are in renting a place, but I looked up rent prices where you are and noticed rent will in average most likely be between $1,400 and $2,000 a month for starter couples these days.

There might be cheaper options (as there certainly are more expensive ones as well), but I guess neighborhood, distance etc. are also important in choosing the right place.

Anyway, there for sure are more things to consider, but these are just a few basic keypoints that came to mind with me.

And we can toss as much bears on the road (Dutch expression with bears meaning obstacles) as we want, but bottom line is that it is exciting and fun for Mini and her guy to start a new phase in their lives. Something to cheer and root for.

Life is about new things, future, breathing, building experience, learning responsibilities, communication, finding solutions in stress situations, but also have the courage and mental strength to get up again after we fall. On our own. We all had go through that ourselves in our lives and most of us still do. Some in a much harder way than the others. And climbed even the highest mountains, two steps forward, one step back. Yet never quit.

Through our own life experiences we can encourage others, like you and Nef can with your daughter and her guy. And also to let them know that even though they have to manage life on their own up to the limit of their mental, physical and financial capabilities, their home base will always still be there.

Oops! Apologies for my long two cents (or is it $20 meanwhile), sometimes I get carried away. But in closing, I wish Mini and her guy nothing but the very best with their new adventure. And big kudos to you and Nef for being such great people and embarking on that adventure with them. Mini has the best home she could ever wish for and her BF experiences that for sure as well.
