User ID: 22937658 United States 09/18/2021 03:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures John. It must have been such a memorable, honorable and rewarding experience to be part of. Over here in Holland we remembered Operation Market Garden yesterday and today with the parachute landings, now 77 years ago. Americans, Canadians, Polish, British parachutists landed on the Ginkelse Heath Fields near Ede that day. This year the memorial was different, because of the covid restrictions, but I remember that in 2019, 98 year old American veteran Tom Rice made the jump again. Here is an impression of him and that jump [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] We sometimes tend to forget, that even though liberation of Holland was delayed, due to weather conditions and unexpected fierce resistance of the Germans, it were these heroes who gave their lives for our freedom. For that we should be forever grateful and never take that freedom for granted. And thank you for being part of this trip John I've been there! The year the Berlin wall fell, we were at a retreat just outside of Nijmegen for the base chapel. The hotel we were at didn't have tv's so we didn't know anything about it until we got back home. I thought some of your pics looked familiar, but it was such a long time ago. Visiting some of the WWII sites was very sobering. Before we left, we went to Corrie Ten Boom's house and saw the hiding place there. It was so very small, I still can't imagine spending any amount of time in there. Hi TB! I agree, visiting those sites is very sobering and humbling. A few years ago we visited the Netherlands American Cemetery at Margraten in Limburg (Southern Netherlands), with over 8,200 graves of American soldiers who were killed in WW II. Very impressive. It makes you total silent to see that. And the Berlin Wall, 9 November 1989. Already almst 32 years ago. Coincidence or not, this morning I talked to an inland vessel skipper, who hauled cargo across the European rivers with his ship. And he mentioned going to Eastern Germany before the wall fell and how it was such a complete different world, almost from light to dark, with soldiers pointing machine guns at them, searching his cargo for refugees. Very aggressive. And all of that changed almost overnight when the wall fell. It makes you even more aware of what control and oppression can do with people. I've been to Berlin a few times over the past decades. Still could see the difference between the light and bright Western side and the grey Eastern side. Hardly anything left of that Wall now, besides a museum, if that is still there. And even though I know we live in challenging times, let's just hope and pray that we never ever end up in dark times like that again. Appreciate life and stick together. Division will get us no where.. I never had the chance to go to Berlin. Partly because of timing, mostly because of finances and lack of German language. I do have a piece of the wall that a friend brought back just after the fall. I agree with you about the times. It's always amazed me, not in a good way, how inhuman we can be to each other. It makes me sad. I know these things have been happening since time began, but I will never understand the minds that continue with evil and hate. I hope we never see it again, but I know we will. Enjoy your weekend, Mezzo. So much I miss about Holland. |

They ended up taking almost half her breast. It was some time before it wasn't tender anymore. Mom was no good taking pain meds, though. They knocked her out cold. She couldn't take them after a few days and she should have. Lot's of nerve endings. The good thing is Mini is much younger. She'll bounce back soon, I'm sure. |

There are normally 20 or so in there at a time. But our guardian bunny has been missing for 24 hours. Neck isn’t locked up, but my skull is being squished and I wanna hurl. Ok, good to see you have birds since you are just a state north of me. Maybe they have better things to do this morning here. I have some yard bunnies too and there was a new baby about 4 weeks ago but I haven't seen it since. I sure hope he/she made it. I also haven't seen the parents as much, but over time I've seen this happen before. They disappear and I worry they've moved or are dead and then all the sudden they pop up again. Sorry you feel so crappy. This calls for carbs! lol Do you have hawks? We have a lot of rabbits in our yard, several only a few weeks old. The hawks have been on the prowl. I know when to look for them as it gets dead quiet, even the bunnies are gone. The stupid hawks also like to leave carcasses behind....like they dropped them and didn't come back for them. I've only seen one in my yard once, but I see them flying around all the time. Never found a carcass thank god. But this could be a factor as well. Who knows. It's still quiet out there though. Have her chest slightly elevated. But the ice for 3 days at least is important. Swelling = pain. We learned that if the pain meds are every 4 hours, then advil type meds every 4 also, but staggered. You end up taking something every 2 hours, one the pain and then the advil. Seems to control the pain better. 80 years! It is the heat of the day, 92 now but still odd that it is so very quiet. Being in Colorado, I don't worry about quakes and no storms in the forecast.
