Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26090309 Interesting I am in northern Illinois and you have just inspired me to go outside and take a look Our local met out of Wausau reported them on FB, so I took a look. They aren't vibrant....more of a dull green glow like a sun had set to the north. Pretty cloudy by me right, wish I was up at my place in Hayward to see this. Love Wausau by the way |

I'm about an hour south. I can't imagine how bright these must be up in the Hayward area tonight. I can see them here, even with light pollution. |

That's crazy, nice find geo, now I will not get much sleep! “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46199715 Its a writhing plasmatic sheet of bumps hills and valleys. This filament lifted right where our magnetic link to old sol was at. I believe we'll see some good energy spikes, glancing blow is already by the wayside for this. yeah, this one has potential to spark up a much bigger storm anyone with clear skys tonight, step outside and take a look up You just might see some auroras! The sky has a pink hue in DC, but not sure if this is related. I thought auroras were green, right? nope, not always though green is one of the most common Aurora colors reported. We had a CME that arrived at Earth on Oct. 24, 2011 and it sparked up RED auroras all the way down to Arkansas! reports flew in even from mid latitudes of seeing the red auroras Oct 25, 2011 - A coronal mass ejection (CME) shot off the sun late in the evening of October 21 and hit Earth on October 24 at about 2 PM ET causing red auroras (nasa link not available due to gov shut down) here is the report of the red auroras on spaceweather.com [link to spaceweather.com] Last Edited by NiNzrez on 10/02/2013 02:07 AM Join Me On The GLP SOLAR WATCH Thread Thread: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! So is this a northern hemisphere thing only, or is it possible to see something down under? You may catch some colors from the south, depends on how thw energy hits and settles, and its polarity, you've got a chance with the southern pole [link to www.universetoday.com] Last Edited by Thinking out loud on 10/02/2013 02:05 AM “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle.
