Quoting: watcher_ Seriously? Only if there is a phone connection. If the power is out, there is no wifi. The modems can't run. It's happened to me a number of occasions. And those connect to what? Servers etc require power too. If its only very localized then sure your phone will work, if its widespread then your phone's internet won't connect to shit. So your theory is that EMP's have taken out everything electrical in Alaska, and no one outside Alaska has noticed ? LOL you either need to stop taking your meds, or take more ! I wish i was fishing instead :) |

But all of that is irrelevant because we do not know if the servers supporting those sites, are indeed located in Alaska, or, could very well be out of Alaska! And if the power grid is down, the mobile telephony towers are powered by batteries for a few hours, as well as the microwave towers, and of course those towers could also have power generators that could start autonomously. Depending on the technology, the sites could cut some TRX, which reduce the number of calls a tower can hold, but will extend the ON AIR time. All in all, people, even the grid is down by normal circumstances (power is cut, not that EMP has been blowing up transformer station, etc!) we can rely for few hours of cellular network, with some decreased performances. So, the DATA part of the network, aka Internet, could still be ongoing for a while, if, repeat, the network was not halted down in purpose. Autonomously, the stations and the microwave connections to BSC and RNC should be available. Now, the WiFi would usually be down as powered by the local electric grid in every home. If there is a distributed point to multipoint (LMDS) the WiFi signal could be still be on for a while (again battery + power generator autonomy). I'm sorry to inform, but this post is saying practically nothing, has no validity whatsoever for the point made for an invasion, attack, etc. |
