Re: Living in Subsidized Housing
dude, quit your bitching..sounds like I'm paying for it anyway not you. If you don't like it then go get a job flipping burgers. Sounds like I have to pay your water bill and mine. What chaps my ass is people like yourself that complain about how they are disabled and can't work but yet are competent enough to hack out a lengthy dissertation about their problems on a computer. If you can do that, then you can do other work on your computer to help you get off of tax payer support. Now man up and do what you have to to not be a burden on society.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1048618

I'm not some 21 year old with 10 kids all on welfare. I worked for 30 plus years so keep your anger for those that get without giving. I also work from home. It's not much, but it's getting better. If you'd actually read my post you would see that the majority of the people who live here are elderly. It is them I am concerned about. I do understand the stigma associated with those who receive any kind of public assistance, but not everyone who does fits the stereotype. The lady who lives next door to me is a retired nurse. She is 68 years old and has COPD from years of terrible asthma. She was born with it and she went to college - twice - to become a nurse. She went twice because technology changed and she wanted her degree to reflect her up-to-date knowledge of nursing. Get facts about people before you spout off. I hope you never find yourself in this situation. Your arrogance is so typical.
 Quoting: Éireann

So anger against a 21 year old with 10 kids is ok? So only those in your circle of misery deserve help but not others?

You're not very bootstrappy, are you?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28558316

I didn't say that. I believe that the 21 year old needs some serious instruction in responsible parenting and understanding the needs of children let alone 10 of them. Many women get into these situations from lack of education, poverty and lack of options. There are lots of things that can be done to help a woman in that situation.

I don't understand what bootstrappy means. And we aren't a circle of misery. Most of the people here, other than myself, are elderly. Judge me all you like, but leave them out of it. Many of them were building this country before you were even born and have a higher understanding of what it means to be self-governing than the rest of us can ever comprehend.

I follow most of your threads because you sound so much like me at times! You aren't broken, you need a break, and that is hard to find these days.

I actually have an idea for you and Miggy both to make some extra money. I thought about doing this but I'm losing my vision and can't be on the internet much anymore. After not being able to work I finally had to start taking my early Social Security. Recently I started looking around for a senior's apartment that I can afford, probably like yours. I'm open to relocating, so I have checked on the internet for different cities. And, I have to tell you, there is a serious need for someone to make a website for these places, along with a blog explaining everything. If you do a Google search, you will pull up everything but what you're looking for, or just the paid crap that's not related.

You get paid by selling advertising space to these places and related businesses. You also join up with Google Adwords and let them place Ads on the website and blog, they pay you.

It's a start, one you can do from your home. I think you can get a Google phone number with voice mail free for the business.

Already told you that, but as time goes by, the more I admire you. Honest, transparent and above all, a FIGHTER! If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know and I'll do my best!
 Quoting: MaybeTrollingU

And I've notice that honest and transparent these days makes you a target for ridicule and judgement. Society has changed so much since in the last 30 years. Honesty is considered a weakness or whining. Bringing injustice to light is met with "beggars can't be choosers". Just beyond belief how arrogant and self-serving we've become as a nation. Where is the we are a team spirit that used to exist in this country? Strange times.

Exactly. Its psycho somatic illness basically depression
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46237104

So you are saying depression is not real? LOL

Actually, since you seem to need to be educated, I will do so. I was involved in two accidents that resulted in brain injuries. One at 13 in 1979, and another at 18 in 1984. In addition to severe pain and muscle spasms, I also have the potential ( like many football players) to have dementia because of the brain injuries. Fibromyalgia in my situation is caused by neurological dysfunction. I also have Mild Cognitive Impairment. Good ahead look it up. I am capable of typing this because I am able to tap into my residual intellect, for now. There will come a time when even that may be a challenge.

Fibromyalgia is the result in most instances of trauma. In my situation, anti depressants have done nothing to make my pain go away, in fact they made me feel and act crazy. I do not doubt that some people with the diagnosis do indeed have depression, and rightfully so especially if they have to deal with people like you. ( who dont know, and work to bully people through a keyboard on a forum)

Let's hope you never get critically injured and suffer with lifelong pain like mine. It will really suck when no one believes you.

Report them to HUD, say that during their inspection some guy sniffed your panties and ask for a damages settlement. Take that money and get GTFO!

Or-

Get renters insurance, spray paint a swastika on your door, break a window, and set the place on fire. Collect the insurance and GTFO.

Now this is a good idea. I do have web site building experience. I haven't done any web sites since PHP first came out, so I'd need to brush up, but I can definitely do the research and put the information in one spot. Even if I am going to be in Ireland, I can still do the site for the benefit of people here at home. It really does need to be done. A friend of mine put together a website with forums that details all of the legitimate work at home jobs out there. He does well with the site and the place is a boon of information for people who have gotten scammed or are looking for a REAL telecommute job.

This is a good idea, Lady Enigma. A very good idea. Thanks!

I know Miggy has business experience. Lots of it!

There are some out there, that would give up all their belongings to have what you have. Please, follow this for a minute,
I am Not trying to put you down or belittle your situation.

Be humble.

It could be much worse, and sadly
will be in the very NEAR future.

There are cotts being readied for school cafeteria's and
gymnasium's, nationwide.
There will not be any consideration for ANY condition a person
has, as labor tasks will be assigned in exchange for cotts and single meal.
There will be no privacy, none, zero..
Extra meal rations will be for those who assist prep,
serving and clean up of soup lines.
Yes, soup, bread, fruit and bottle of water, once in 24 hours.
This is very near, and very real.

During those times, you Will be greatful for having
useful limbs and use of legs for mobility.

If you have no power greater than yourself right now,
Rest assured, you will in the future.
This same power you will seek refuge in,
is the one that could cure you of your woes at present.

enough of where they were, what little they had
and we're burnt out seeking pity

If you are Irish, why don't you just go back?
There's a lot better standard of living, no prying into accommodation either and better 'handouts'
Or are you one of these yanks who's relative, in the far,far off past emigrated, and you feel it's much more romantic to be Irish?
Have you ever been to Ireland.....doubt that too.

*nod nod* I know. I called the State Attorney General's office to get some understanding of our rights. I sent a copy of my lease to the State Attorney General (Assistant) that I'm working with and she said that since the lease doesn't state the specifics, I can not be bound to it. These are the issues I will bring up with HUD. HUD makes up the difference to the Housing Authority I rent from. If they don't pass a HUD inspection, they have to come up to HUD standards or close. The real issue here is the ability of the elderly tenants to meet the requirements of the rules the Housing Authority is laying out. I just can't see my 89 year old neighbor standing on a ladder scrubbing the siding!

My mom lived in Subsidized Housing but they never went through her drawers. They did inspect the apartment to make sure it was neat and clean. A veteran that lived in the bldg. was evicted after repeated letters to clean up his hoard.

They are all business but not a bad place to live. If you don't have a lot of people coming over and are a clean person it's not a big deal.

Total truth in this post!

When those times come, I hope that I have helped the people here to form a bond so they will pool together their resources and take care of each other so they don't end up in a FEMA camp. The thought of what would become of them is terrifying. We've all talked about it. Many of the folks are ... oh what's that kind of Christian called who believes in End Times and all of that rapture stuff? E something. Anyway, many of the conversations we've had have been about pre or post rapture and if post, how to be prepared. Now, I don't really know if I believe that rapture stuff, but it can't hurt to be prepared so I take the knowledge and information to heart!

I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to go through your personal possessions, such as your underwear drawer. Is there a government housing agency you can contact?

HUD will be here October 1st. I plan on giving them an ear full :)

What does your lease state? Did you sign on to these inspections and rules?

If your lease states they are able to do this- HUD cannot do anything about it, unless you live in a HUD OWNED unit.

Are you a participant on HUD Housing? I am confused. Are you on the HCV Voucher program? I can help if I have more details. Do you have to do annual re-examinations for income determination and annual inspections through a HOUSING AUTHORITY?

Actually this is what the system was made. To help people in need. This I support! I have NO issue paying taxes to help some one like this!

Seems like socialism isnt so bad after all, glp?

Help people truly in need is not socialism. That’s doing the right thing. Socialism is making everybody equal even though some “able body people” will not work for it.

My point is this… I have no issue helping the true people in need but I do have an issue with helping the leeches that refuse to work when they can work
 Quoting: YaRight

People really don't understand socialism. Even in a Democratic or Constitutional Republic, there needs to be some sort of system for caring for those members of the populace who can not or are no longer able to care for themselves. I've always felt it was part of my responsibility as a self-governing individual to make sure the elderly and disabled are cared for humanely and with dignity and the down on their luck are given a hand up. It benefits me to have my fellow be at their best and it's just the right thing to do. We don't leave our elderly or disabled to die in ditches because they can no longer work - that is the end game of Fabian Socialism. Orwell was pretty clear on what happens to those who can't work. Eeps!

Re: Living in Subsidized Housing

Lots of it!
 Quoting: Éireann

I'm so glad you like the idea! I was caught up in thinking I could do this myself, not for the money necessarily, but I realized the need.

For the last 10 years I designed websites, and internet marketing for small businesses, no e-commerce. I still have one client that I maintain their internet marketing to supplement my income. They are wonderful in working with my vision problems right now. So, if and when you do this, I can help you get started with the internet marketing tricks that will fast track you. Just let me know, I would be happy to do whatever I can to help out a fellow GLPer!

Best wishes!

I'm REALLY glad I posted this thread. So many great things have come out of it! Not just for me, but for anyone reading it. Thank, Lady Enigma!!!

I don't dare to speak for all of GLP, but I know that there are several of us here that you bring joy to just by being you. Thanks for sharing, and I really hope some breaks fall your way soon and some new doors get opened up for you.
