Clearly ,she can work part time ..with some illness' thats all you are able to do. Clearly she is trying to do better. Think about it. Memory loss is horrible, yet she strives. And is humble.

I don't feel very humble at the moment. I feel like poking some of these people's eyes out! Starting to feel like a broken record repeating stuff that was posted 5 pages back.

Anywho, I have to finish my chores and go to work. Y'all have a great day.

From what I can tell, over the years, the GLP philosophy is if you are poor, live on welfare, or use food stamps, you are a piece of trash that should be strapped to a chair and beaten with hammers.

But I say, best of luck to you, we will all need it someday.

Re: Living in Subsidized Housing
As many of you know, I'm mentally disabled.

It's insane.

Thanks. Just needed to vent.
 Quoting: Éireann

I "like" you as a GLP'er... I believe you contribute ALOT to the discussions... But I trouble having sympathy for the situation you present. It is private property and you are free to move anytime you see fit to do so. As you are in subsidized housing, I unfortunately have even less sympathy.

I do hope you continue to pursue your small business plans.

One bit of advice I can give you is this:
Make lists...
Writing (not typing) goes a long way to helping you remember things. And having things on paper makes them always retrievable.

So make a list for your business...
i.e...
1. Research
a. Potential for success
b. Talk to others in similar businesses
c. Figure out the amount of money needed to start business
2. Develop business plan
a. Do I need a store front
b. Where will I get my widgets from
- Is this the cheapest place for widgets
c. Will my midget supplier be able to keep up with the changing widget market.

So it's basically a "punch list"... The longer you make it and the more detailed you make it... The better, you will feel a little "rush" every time you scratch a line off the list.

Oh and you need a second punch list...

This is for the day to day crap...

Example:
1. Pick-up dry cleaning
a. Ask about alterations
2. Vacuum Floors
3. Mop Floors
4. Buy batteries for back massage
5. Work on Business plan for 1 hour
6. Watch Miley Cyrus make ass of herself at MTV music awards, 7pm tonight...
7. Pick up bottle of Red Wine for hot date.
8. Give El Tiburon some Green for the advice.

Think about this...
People spend thousands of dollars for seminars, and hundreds more for the organizers that go with the seminars.

All you need is a pack of note pads.
Use a separate note pad for each MAJOR Endeavor, like starting a business.
Use a separate notepad for your daily activities.

At night, before bed, start a new list. Copy any unfinished activities for the current day. Try and place them as close to the top of the list as possible.

Last bit of advice... read list(s) often... look for opportunities to combine tasks like :pick up drycleaning & get gallon of milk...
This can be done in one trip. But equals two things scratched off your list.

I hope this helps you.

Re: Living in Subsidized Housing
Add up what you are spending in rent and the extra water and go find a place for that amount with water included. Or you could just find a roommate and get out of the horrible place you are in. It would only be temporary with a roommate since you will be leaving soon and you could possibly save up some money by selling stuff and just having enough furniture for a bedroom. Or just get one rented room. Think of the money you could save. Anything would be something.

Dont be so judgemental,we all must realize never is a long time. So hopefully you will keep the health you have.

I judge the judgemental. My point is simply this. Anyone who purports to judge others...who criticises government and its services to the needy, takes from that government and then criticises what she is getting, deserves to be reminded of what a moocher she is. In fact she fully meets my definition of a moocher.

State welfare is a gift, not a right. Take it, shut up and get off it as quick as you can. Don't come on here complaining as to ypur rights to more favourable access whilst deriding the system and other recipients (who happen to be black). I as a self made person despite extreme difficulties and a compassionate egalitarian will kick your arse with derision.

Blah. I don't want more stuff, I just want to be left alone. I'm a grown woman. I don't need a set of rules to live by. I used to be someone once. Just because I'm broken now they seem to think that they can do with me as they please.
 Quoting: Éireann

Oh my goodness E. You are someone NOW. I always like your posts and I am so glad you are here.

I pray that you find an alternative living arrangement. That does sound overly controlling, over the limit, esp. for the elderly and those short on money. It sounds like rules for a country club or something.

I don't know much about HUD and stuff. At my mom's condo in FL, they have maybe 100 units and 2 or 3 of them are used for HUD individuals. They seem to work out well within that community. However, it seems to me that the places that are ALL HUD do not have enough rules. I don't know much - like I said.
 Quoting: Ms. Superduper

I will be leaving the US to join my husband in Ireland by the end of this year. I'm fortunate as I have a way out of this mess. But before I leave, I want there to be some changes for the benefit of the elderly who live here. I won't allow them to be mistreated simply because they have no money and no recourse. It's abusive and intolerable and I won't stand for it.
 Quoting: Éireann

YOU have shelter.

YOU have food.

YOU also has plenty of ‘time.’

‘Time’ to go to Church.

‘Time’ to sit on committees.

‘Time’ to bitch on GLP.

But ‘NO TIME’ to look for employment, or to set up a small business.

We shouldn’t have to subsidize the lazy.

YOU get the basics, if YOU want more...Earn it!

You want people to feel sorry for you? Feel sorry for these poor souls.

Good grief some of you fucktards on this thread are the most holier-than-thou people I've ever read. Eireanne worked and put money into the SS system. She is disabled but trying to get back to where she doesn't have to live the way she lives right now. She can't be with her husband yet because he is a citizen of another country and immigration laws have prevented it. Her concern about the rules of her housing is mostly because the rules are very difficult for the elderly people who live there, and possibly illegal (paying to care for common areas outside, overly invasive searches of the apartments beyond what is normally required/allowed by law etc.) Read the damn thread before you jump on her. She goes to great lengths NOT to drain the system. She is working and trying to progress despite a brain injury that really set her back. Her gold star is a gift from another GLPer.

Get the hell off of your high horses and thank God you are not in the same situation she is in. I would hope if you were you would handle it with the same character and dignity as she does.

"Whinging" is not a word in the English language. The "free market" does not exist much in the reality of a small town where housing options are limited. When she is reunited with her husband she will not need assistance. Thanks for playing.

I think OP is actually in a tax credit property, which has no relation to HUD HOUSING.

If she were on Hud, she would have had to put in an application with HUD to get on the waiting list, then went to several meetings where she signed on the dotted line on many pages where counselors ask whether she understands what the rules are.

HUD has 3 basic programs and you have to voluntarily sign up for them.

Tax credit housing is not HUD.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46287683

Oh really? They still have to be inspected by HUD. This is all sooooo confusing.

But I never put in an application to HUD. Just the application here where I live.

I need coffee first. Then I'll Google Tax Credit Housing. I don't even know what that means.
 Quoting: Éireann

While your 'Googling', think about the hungry and the dispossessed.

While you sip your coffee, think of the people living on the street.

I suspect you wont, just like you wont answer the posts that criticize you.

You have to worry about 'important' things like watering your lawn and washing the occasional window.

It's all about perspective, and you have none.

Re: Living in Subsidized Housing
...

Now this is a good idea. I do have web site building experience. I haven't done any web sites since PHP first came out, so I'd need to brush up, but I can definitely do the research and put the information in one spot. Even if I am going to be in Ireland, I can still do the site for the benefit of people here at home. It really does need to be done. A friend of mine put together a website with forums that details all of the legitimate work at home jobs out there. He does well with the site and the place is a boon of information for people who have gotten scammed or are looking for a REAL telecommute job.

This is a good idea, Lady Enigma. A very good idea. Thanks!

I know Miggy has business experience. Lots of it!

I'm so glad you like the idea! I was caught up in thinking I could do this myself, not for the money necessarily, but I realized the need.

For the last 10 years I designed websites, and internet marketing for small businesses, no e-commerce. I still have one client that I maintain their internet marketing to supplement my income. They are wonderful in working with my vision problems right now. So, if and when you do this, I can help you get started with the internet marketing tricks that will fast track you. Just let me know, I would be happy to do whatever I can to help out a fellow GLPer!

Best wishes!

Will you please post the link or give the name to this site that details all of the legitimate remote work/work at home/telecommute jobs? Thanks.

Hi Eireann I am the AC that asked you to please post the link or give the name to the site. I'm looking into getting into work from home/telecommute/remote work and I would like to ask you a few questions about the research business and web design/marketing. I would send you a personal message through this forum but I can't as I don't have an upgraded account. My email address is [email protected] I would like you to send me a quick email to my address so I will have your email address and then I can ask you a few quick questions by email. I know you may be busy, just a few quick questions, I won't take up too much of your time.

Re: Living in Subsidized Housing
