Anonymous Coward User ID: 45577761 United States 09/02/2013 04:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Check the mouth. Could be an abcess, bad tooth, gingivitis. If the gums are swollen, use triple antibiotic goo on them - not with antiinflammatory - just straight triple antibiotic. If swollen, soak cloths in water with ice, and use cold compresses. Assist feed. Use a large syringe, and mush up the food. She must have at least 12 teaspoons of food and drink per day. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 44124412 United States 09/02/2013 04:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My Wife is a veterinary surgeon. There are really only a few possibilities. Depending on the rapidity of weight loss it would be a linear foreign body that's constricting her intestines ($1000 surgery) a foreign body in the stomach (it makes the animal not hungry because it's belly is literally full) and is a $1000 surgery. Or it's cancer. There is one other possibility, a thyroid problem. To determine the issue will require a couple hundred dollars to diagnose and solve, possibly more. Quoting: TurdyMcTurdz Contact the Humane Society and ask what they can do. Call around to a few vet offices as well. Some large Vet schools might be worth looking into as well. They could have a much reduced pricing plan in turn for something that allows for education / clinical experience. Some Vet offices also offer subsidized rates or even free stuff, depending on the situation. So call around and reach out to as many places as possible. Worst case I think the Humane Society will take care of the animal for you. Good luck and best wishes. well ur wife did not cover renal issues or IBD or colitis or b12 shortage or ketoacidosis or just regular diabetes. OP prices vary GREATLY upon locale. i offered you help...there are foundations, too. take ur cat to a good reputable vet asap I didn't ask her. I was thinking of things off the top of my head. Also she's DACVS board certified, NOT DAVIM. Renal shouldn't cause apitite loss. I'm curious, what are your qualifications? Real education or the interwebs? You've given solid advice. But I find it funny that you poopoo everyone else with a superiority complex. Spot that character flaw a mile away. Glad you can use google and paste possible solutions as though your a Dr. |

She's not drinking water or the chicken broth even when I try to spoon feed it to her. Calling the a vet today. Thanks for all the suggestions and positive comments folks. The guy with the tube sock comment needs to be drowned. You have to gently pry the clenched jaws open and squirt the fluid slowly and a little at a time against the cheek with a plastic syringe. They don't like it much but when they are that sick they are usually too sick to fight it much. For their own good, you have to force them to take the fluids by squirting it in there. You can buy the plastic medical syringes in the toddler section of Wal-Mart or at any pharmacy. My cat quit resisting after the first few times and actually cooperated. He knew I was trying to help him and each time he got some fluids he was feeling better. |

(OP) User ID: 42336598 United States 09/03/2013 10:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got in touch with The Cat Alliance, local # 804-378-1782. They work directly with a local vet and took care of all the exam and euthanasia expenses. The vet was Genito Animal Hospital and they were all great. Very kind, and very empathetic. As of this morning, my Moe-kitty is at rest and no longer in pain. I buried her in my garden in the backyard. Thanks all again for the kind words and suggestions. Can anyone suggest a pretty plant/flower that will take this time of year and come back each year? I live in the mid-atlantic east coast for a climate reference. You cat was "too far gone" because you did not intervene in a timely and appropriate manner to save her. You did only what was easiest for YOU....made the problem go away. You were told by people on this thread exactly how to prevent your cat from becoming dehydrated to the point of death. You chose to ignore them all. People even offered to pay your vet for any treatment needed. Again, you ignored them. A cat can get very sick and refuse to eat or drink from simple things like worms or fleas or various parasites which can be easily and inexpensively treated. Your cat deserved better. Don't bother with the flowers on the grave. |

User ID: 28219729 United States 09/03/2013 06:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | as i said i made an offer to pay. i've helped people before, people have helped me... as other posters have said fleas will make a cat not eat or drink ... that just happened to a friend of mine, cat was just lying still....not eating or drinking and had lost weight.....he thought after the kitty was going to the vet (his family took him) he'd never see him again and he is fine now! he is allergic to fleas (severe allergic dermatitis - he is white and they saw no fleas) and also hyperthyroid so the fleas bothered him more than the other cats. the fleas came into the home from superstorm sandy. also the fleas can cause anemia from biting so much - even in adult cats....this kitty is 17 and sprung right back to life after proper treatment. you had help which you refused. some vets would also treat the cat and adopt out. i suggest you not get another animal until you are willing to take the help of others in SAVING your companion animals life. i am sorry Moe lost her young life. i am sure you loved her, but have too much pride (to accept money) or immaturity or something to do what would have been best for her. you came here for help, had offers, and only did the easiest thing for yourself. i just do not understand. I've had to put a few cats and dogs to sleep over the decades and it is not easy but it is the right thing to do when they are suffering. Quoting: ancha No vet will put down a healthy animal. So you did the right thing. "Forget Me Not's "" are a nice flower. But I don't know if they will come back. vets do what they are paid to do. i've known of vets who hv euthanized healthy young pets bc a child was allergic, or the couple was divorcing. it is wrong. i hope less of them do it, but do not lie, please. |

The CAT Alliance paid for the EXAM and the euthanasia. The EXAM determined she was too far gone. My mistake was in waiting too long to finally ask for help thinking she would get better if I could keep her eating and drinking. Screw you negative fuckhead, my cat just died. Leave your name next time so I can repay the favor. "Big wooly mammoth gonna wear my coat in the middle of the summertime" |

I had my Zorro cremated it only cost 100.00 and I have a beautiful little Cedar Box with his name engraved on it... After a year we adopted 3 Kitties that needed a home, a brother and his 2 sisters... Orange Ruffy Sammy Taffy... I know Zorro brought them to us....
