Syria cyber attacks may target banks, media, utilities
The US is planning for a possible wave of cyber attacks against companies by hackers connected to Syria or Iran in retaliation for any military strike against the government of Bashar al-Assad, according to a source familiar with the planning.

The US National Security Agency (NSA) has tapped hackers' computers in the Middle East to assess their ability to disrupt power grids, financial systems or other critical infrastructure, according to another source familiar with those operations.

The preparations, part of wide-ranging plans by the Pentagon, took on added urgency after this week's attack on the New York Times' website by the Syrian Electronic Army, a pro-Assad hacker group. That group previously hacked the Associated Press's Twitter account to falsely report an explosion near the White House, triggering a drop in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index that temporarily wiped out $US136 billion ($A152 billion) in market value.

Changing DNS records really doesn't do much except provide an annoyance to the company really.

A massive Denial of Service attack has already been underway at most of our major banks, since at least summer of 2012. Bank systems are constantly under attack here, it takes me 25 minutes to make a deposit.

The only real danger is if they penetrate the servers and get customer information, which isn't very likely.

HA

you do realise how many servers and satellites the data would have to travel through right?

you should install an addon to firefox called WorldIP just to see where your connected to on each website you visit.

There isn't a direct connection from syria to the USA, so the only effective hacking would be from within the USA.

sorry to burst your boogie man bubble.

Exactly.

This is going to come from inside our government.
NSA, PRISM....they can access ALL of it, whenever they want to. It's all electronic.
They need that money in our bank accounts to pay for this shit of a mess they got into. The country is broke. The debt clock hasn't moved in how long now?
And it's all according to plan.

Everyone keeps talking about a "72 hour window" before SHTF, and to pull your money out.

My theory: It's Labor Day weekend, and Monday is a bank holiday. Nobody is going to stop partying long enough to realize that come Tuesday, banks will be running on empty. The Syria situation cropped up, and Friday was the 1st day. Add Saturday, Sunday (banks are closed), and Monday...this IS the 72 hour window.

There won't be anything left due to the cyber attacks that (i'm guessing) would hit either today or Monday. Watch the stock market closely. And since our own government are the ones funding this "war", and the FSA...which would lead one to think they ALSO have ties to the Syrian Cyber Army - or whatever name they made up - it adds fuel to the flames.

then it's only because 'they' are

They will likely attack all US debt, people's private checking, savings, 401k's, IRA's.

But, of course they won't touch the mortgage companies, The big banks real assets, US government assets, or the credit card servers....

Just a prediction.....

Building 7 and the Pentagon for 2013....but even bigger.

Re: Syria cyber attacks may target banks, media, utilities
just in time for the simulated cyberattack against the power grid in November!!! :)))

considering there is no central source for any grid, as all power sources are individually geographically separated, with multiple power sources per state, in every state - most of which, are not connected to any online type of ISP, gov or civilian.

should be fun watching them explain that.

Yeah nothing much will happen.
Seems their capability stops short of DNS attacks and DDoS attacks. Which as said critical services are under constant sources of this.

Also banking services are all done internally so your online banking might go down but your bank will stay open.
I should hope critical services are all internally controlled.
