Once you realize the physical result of positive words and energy (or what religion has dumbed down and called "prayer") it opens up a whole new way of thinking about prayer. Anonymous Coward User ID: 44065675 United States 08/16/2013 02:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Do you pray for other people? No, being an American has nothing to do with what God does. You also don't know if the Christians you are talking about asked for help, you may assume they did but you don't know. There is nothing wrong with their prayers, God listens to prayers. Sometimes you might not like the answer but he answers them, and you might not see the picture until much later. Prayer is not petty, talking to God is not petty. God giving you strength in bad times is not a bad prayer. He never said we would not go through bad times. It is the strength and you character that is what is important in bad times. That is when you move through it and are grateful to see the light at the end of that tunnel or the end of the bad times. Rejoice in the bad times and the good, God will be there to help you get through. |

I think I remember something else about praying in your closets in secret. I guess it would appear I'm anti-christian. I'd call it anti-new age "pray for some prosperity, lets go sit in the pews of the $25 million church and sport our nice clothes, and donate $5 to the homeloess so we can feel good about our own pathetic, barely clinging to sanity weak ass selves" christians. If you're going to try to learn something from the bible (and it is full of wisdom whether ordained of God or not) then read it and take away your own opinions. There is nothing worse than a person who wants to believe shit because somebody told them to instead of reaching their own conclusions. |

I have to admit, if I walked into a room where someone was "talking to God" through prayer, it would strike me as odd. This is a big issue for believers. The stigma associated with prayer, because the spectrum spans so wide. Don't know if this makes sense just my 2 |

And I'm suspicious when wealthy(ish) people always seem to be the ones drawn to them. and the message is always upbeat and the promises always revolve around worldly success and the donation trays are extra large and deep and the preacher drives a Mercedes and on thanksgiving the church donates $500 worth of food and the 5,000 church members donate 40 man hours to feeding a hundred homeless people some green beans and dried up dressing. I'll tell you what godly would be. It'd be NOT building that big ass church and instead donating millions to the poor. That would be what a Christian would prefer. Maybe it was said with a lower case g. Is God's name God? I'm quite sure it isn't. And what Christian would actually choose to believe that pork is a sin when the bible clearly says that it's only a sin to those who believe it is and that it is clean to those who believe it is clean? I'll tell you something. I think that little chapter's meaning extends beyond pork. |
IamGod User ID: 45226102 India 08/16/2013 02:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So these people always want to pray about petty shit. "Oh God please help me make it through this busy week," "Oh lord help my husband with this," "Oh God this and that." Quoting: Unixlike They're always wanting me to pray about my own petty little problems because God will answer my pathetic selfish little appeals. I couldn't take the shit anymore and finally asked them if God is so willing to help me with my little daily difficulties then why wasn't he there when tens of millions of the most devoted christians prayed their hearts out to him to save them, their children, and babies from the mother fucking plague? It almost seems like a sin to beg for petty shit when untold millions died praying for their lives. I guess I'm better than they were. Maybe it's just because I'm an American, or maybe it's because I have more money than those peasants had. You are absolutely correct. One need not ask for god's help (if at all he is there), for every nonsense they are doing. NO, he is not ruling us evidently - If he was, it is not just plague, there are a billion people in power who are corrupt, robbers, dacoits, liers, looting others money, dishonest and destroying the mankind and goodness in one way or another.. so, in my opinion, HE is not there... Believe in yourself and keep going! |
