I can assure you that the number of ships at anchor at any one time have almost zero significance to anything of doom related value. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1607308 [/quote Able bodied seaman?! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45016979 For example, your mouseover, 9HJC9 [link to en.wikipedia.org] Could be the Scientologists are getting into some shit out in the ocean. You know how those guys are. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 20904099 United States 08/13/2013 01:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My dad was a merchant marine. I know from his work that the last thing shipping companies want is for their vessels to be sitting still. They want to load it with cargo, then send it to its destination, where it is quickly unloaded and the whole process starts again. They don't make ANY money when a ship isn't moving. So inbound ships sitting out past the continental shelf is probably a sign that they cannot proceed any further and have been instructed to wait. . There could be shipping channel issues (like the dredging mentioned above) or security issues. Lets see if more and more of them keep stacking up out there. If none of them are coming into port, and ESPECIALLY if none are outbound, something's up. |

I drive to the ocean most daily (live so close) and today I said to myself how strange so many ships out saw at least 5 huge and far out. Normally I'd see 2 at the very most. Anyway it was also strange bc the ocean was flat and our weather was somewhat stormy. But yes that is irrelevant! Long Island new york |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 45056505 Brazil 08/13/2013 01:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. ... This 9HJC9 is not an oil ship, it's a huge civil transatlantic, so: ... WTF! I do not know what that is, but I will not dismiss this information, seems to be something relevant, the op said he uses this software for 5 years and have never seen such a thing, very strange. |

You see this a lot with raw materials like oil for example. The Port of Rotterdam on a standard day has dozens of oil tankers waiting just outside the harbor, some ships wait for weeks untill the price of oil is high enough to deliver it in the harbor. A 1% change in price for a barrel of oil can mean millions of extra profit for a large tanker. |

Ships out in the Atlantic off our coast are usually moving. Fishing for over 30 years and this I know is true |

There does seem to be a glitch in the server where the ship info is coming from. The weather reports are coming from a few ships on the move instead of being anchored. But the older reports from some of those ships older locations while on the move are not being removed. Normally it's one ship giving one report one location at a time. Old ship locations are not being removed from the map! Sorry for starting this thread. I should of dug further before posting this thread. But Like I said, I been using this program for 5 years and never had a problem. The problem is with the server where the ship info is coming from and it's a first glitch I ran into in 5 years. A few members posted simple and to the point debunks without being rude which helped me looked into things a bit further. After all, we all want the truth and so do I, and I like to thank those members. Thanks Last Edited by Wanta10GA on 08/13/2013 01:49 AM |

I'm sure you're right, although much of the oil comes into the Gulf of Mexico, particularly in Texas and Louisiana. My dad worked for companies that used container ships, so that's my experience for the most part. |

I am a captain for a petroleum tanker and I usually use Ship Finder when I'm on the beach to see where my boat is. This app is much more detailed. I'll be using it from now on. So thanks. |
