I mean, and I think the media, the American media at its best, which is, you know, institutions like The New York Times had become anemic, and at its worst, which is the commercial airwaves, have just become tools of corporate propaganda. And there's a crisis within the media establishment that is very, very profound and very frightening." Anonymous Coward User ID: 1524508 United States 07/23/2013 02:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Geeze. A liberal socialist whining that the liberal elites are a bunch of narcissists and no longer care about their fellow man. This guy needs a big bucket of ice water poured over his head to wake him up. When you have power, prestige, and money, you will never try to rock the boat. Liberals are no different than everyone else in this concept. He mentions that there is a level of corporate control placed over the working class by keeping them at the minimum level of income. They essentially have a sword hanging over their head if they rock the boat. They will lose everything just by wanting to exercise their desires to make "change" Does this guy no realize that that goes for the rich and elite, too? They get trapped in the same problem, that if they step out of the politically correct line they will have their world ripped out from under them? The corporate, Wall Street, and banking elites are quite powerful when it comes to private money and can sure play hell with our everyday lives, but are by no means able to construct by themselves the overwhelming oppression that you see around us today. They cannot do what they do without the legal authority, and it has to be backed up by a means of enforcement. That ability to have legal authority and enforcement can be given by no other than the Government. Wall street, just like the common man, can only do what the laws say they may. The real issue lies with our politicians. The political class has become severely corrupt, narcissistic, and entrenched. Unfortunately, they seem to seriously lack intelligence. Their level of detachment from the concerns of their constituents seems to be directly proportional to the amount of time that they have been in office. Yes, I do share the concern that the US is becoming vulnerable to a major catastrophe and may end up with a government taken over by zealots. (Weimar to Hitler for example) However, the way to do this is not to hope and pray for a new power paradigm erupting from one party, but to create it. The answer to this is as simple as removing the entrenched politicians that end up amassing large powerbases due to their longevity in office. They too get trapped in the cycle of the sword over their head. They need to get reelected to continue their career. The future economic loss can be very bad for some of them if they lose an election. They don't want that. Term limits is the final answer. Term limits not only protect against centralizing of power to a few people by removing long entrenched politicians, it also will require the electorate to think about what the candidates offer and ensure that the people are back in control. The stranglehold that Wall street and moneyed interests have on the Government will be gone. Remove their swords! |

I agree on term limits and a re-hashing of the electoral college. Our representative democracy within the republic was never meant for the population level we have now. It hasn't grown with times at all. [link to www.datamasher.org] With the data chart above it show's that on average a single member of congress represents about 700k. That is an incredibly large number when you talk about the reality of things. You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness. Like resignation to the end, always the end.
