NAACP to Lee County, Fla.: Tear down this Gen. Robert E. Lee portrait
The president of an NAACP branch in Florida has petitioned members of the Lee County Commission to take down a painting of Gen. Robert E. Lee, calling the former Confederate leader a historic symbol of racism.

Lee County was named after the general in 1887 — 22 years after the Civil War wrapped, the Fort Myers News-Press said.
But James Muwakkil, of the Lee County chapter of the NAACP, said the painting, which has hung in the county commission’s meeting room for years, divides the community.

If the NAACP is so worried about racism, maybe they should look into the mirror.

Just more of the tear down any kind of pride the South may have from the usual suspects.

Maybe the NAALCP should worry a bit more about the illegitimacy rates in the black community. Or the crime in the black community, or the health problems in the black community. But no, they and the SPLC are more concerned about portraits and flags.

They are concerned about those issues, however they are doing quite well on those fronts...

While they proceed to destroy our heritage, just how far back in history our we going to go with this? Is there a start/stop point for who owned slaves, was 'racist' or committed unspeakable acts of political incorrectness? While I agree slavery is deplorable, it is just a part of history. I suppose we should throw out Andrew Jackson for his atrocities against the natives? Or maybe FDR/Truman for interring Japanese and nuking their cities? Of course you would have to keep going further and further back. It could get tedious....
