Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42044817 CIV 5 is very good. Loved the first Rome Total war. I prefer the 1700's to first half of the 20th century in RTS games. Just my preference though. A little too much chaotic melee-hand to hand combat/hyper pointing and clicking in earlier time periods. I have been playing Wargame: Airland battle. It's ok but i like the 'grand battle' scenarios of earlier time periods. The game is set during the Cold war 80's. So it's more about pin point strategy and executing the perfect strategy with very few units. Solid game though...I enjoy it. |

Civ V (although its actually turn based not real time) Recently though I've been playing a little indie sleeper called Conquistadors: Expeditions It's pretty good so far, it reminds me of the early D&D games with lots of story and character driven events. Plus its pretty difficult and has the optional Iron Man mode. |

Unfortunately it's not on Steam so I'll have to get the disks. Has the combo of city building and war...Looks awesome. Vuse and Torrents bud... hmmm...I'll check that out. Thanks. That kind of computer technology frightens and confuses my primitive mind...but I'll give it a try. [link to lockerz.com] |

User ID: 23433403 Canada 07/06/2013 11:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No quite a RTS, but a game I'm really into right now is called DayZ... It's a free mod for a game called Arma2, which is a very realistic shooter. It uses the huge open world map (takes like 2 hours to run across it on foot), it has land, sea and air vehicles, buildings, natural environment and everything you'd find in a real world shooter in both 1st and 3rd person. The mod places you as a "survivor" who needs to scavenge to survive in a post apocalyptic zombie ridden world. You loot buildings for guns, ammo, tools, etc, find broken down vehicles to repair then sell for currency to buy better weapons, base building tools, food, etc. You gotta eat and drink regularly, bandage yourself if you're bitten, take antibiotics and painkillers if you get infected. It's an awesome mod for an awesome game, which is being made into it's own standalone that's due for release at some point this year... The developers are still supporting the mod with frequent patches as they complete the standalone. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

It was some pretty fucking primitive graphics, basically blocks, but hey for a 10 year old, it was pretty fun. |

I think simulation games/RTS/turn based strategy games appeal to the same kind of people. It's like a general category with some sub categories. Like Non-fiction books are sub categorized into Biography, history etc... |
