Quoting: Fhirinne It is strange. Never mind the fact that everything from the economy to the infrastructure is collapsing all around us, and we're swimming in a stew of toxins. They've latched onto tobacco like a pit bull and won't let go. They've managed to confine smokers to their homes, cars, and back alleys, but apparently that wasn't good enough. Now they have to declare these last remaining refuges hazardous waste zones. How long before Child Protective Services jumps on this one? |

They stay on surfaces, and when those surfaces are clothing or carpets, the danger to children is especially serious.” Quoting: BirdMom To complicate the seriousness of the problem, the residue can react with other common indoor air pollutants such as ozone and nitrous acid. These new ultrafine particles have been found to pass directly into human tissues through inhalation, ingestion and skin contact. “Until this study, the toxicity of third-hand smoke has not been well understood,” says Bo Hang, lead researcher and biochemist in the Life Sciences Division of Berkeley Lab. “Third-hand smoke has a smaller quantity of chemicals than second-hand smoke, so it’s good to have experimental evidence to confirm its genotoxicity.” [link to www.newsroompanama.com] I guess I'm behind the curve. I didn't even realize there was a such thing as third hand tobacco smoke until I read this. Honestly, I have a hard time believing this, since I'm well aware that science has become as corrupt as any other field. e.g. If you want your government research grant, you'd better toe the party line. I've always found it suspect that the same government that has no issues with the multitude of other toxins and unhealthy additives that we are exposed to has such a big hard on for tobacco. It must be as bad as drinking raw milk or something to have them in such a frenzy over smoking. As per the US government, the following are perfectly fine: GMO foods, Aspartame, High fructose corn syrup, MSG, Bovine growth hormone in dairy products, Broad spectrum antibiotics in meat, farmed fish, and dairy, Fluoride in drinking water, Mercury in dental fillings and vaccines, Ritalin passed out to kids like candy, etc. Sorry if I have a hard time believing that the powers that be really care about our health. This study could not read better if it were written by a politician. They even found a way to make it "for the children". the tobaqueros, or shamans of south america, say that the forest spirits (amriki) are activated by nicotine/tobacco - it is their main shamanic plant for healing all types of sickness and demonic possession. In the book Cosmic Serpent, tobacco is said to awaken the serpents/water dragons (DNA), so yes, it has already been known to alter DNA. These shamans live into old age smoking heavy amounts of tobacco; they even drink the stuff in a thick brewed tobacco tea. We have nicotinic receptors and it's a plant. I trust god more than a scientific study made by man with his moneyed agenda and scientific instruments, coming out of some academic circle jerk with no experience of the real world, let alone the shamanic. This study doesn't take into account the hundreds of additives that western man puts into the ciggerettes to gain a capitalist edge on idiots that are addicted to the sugar and formaldehyde in marlboros and newports. |

Unfortunately, the scientific community has been trained well. They're not as objective as they should be. Government grant money has seen to that. I guess the real question is why the government is going after tobacco. Is it just for the tax money? There are other theories. Some say that cigarette smoking has taken the fall for a rise in lung cancer caused by all the above-ground nuclear testing that used to be done. Another theory is that nicotine counteracts the mind-numbing effects of fluoride in drinking water. I even read a theory that Rockefeller just hates smoking and is using his power and influence to attack the habit just because he finds it personally distasteful. |

That's my thought as well, and Berkeley is quite politically correct. What I find so concerning about this study is the claim that a child can be harmed from just touching a jacket that the parent wore while smoking a cigarette 2 months ago. At this rate, they'll have all the ammo they need to take children away from parents who smoke, even if they don't smoke anywhere near their children. |
