Yes, afaik you can get worms from cats and dogs. You usually get a pill or two, the worms die from it and you poop them out. Thats it.

hmmm. I recently took in a kitty that is being treated for worms and now I am paranoid bc she licked my face. I'll have to start checking my stool.

Sure, and you can get another kind of parasite: toxoplasmosis.

If she is being treated I don't think chances are high you get infected. Wash your hands/face until worm treatment is done.

Cats that go outside and hunt carry all manner of nasty things they get from their prey and other cats droppings.
If you are immunocompromised in sny way get rid of the effing cats, they are literal parasite shedding machines.

Thanks, Yeah I've been doing that since I got her just in case, but I'm still totally paranoid. At least she doesn't have fleas, or I'd be going crazy disinfecting the house and the other cats.

These are indoor cats (the little girl I took in a few weeks ago and had her checked out at the vet, and she's fine, except for the worms). As far as my immune system, I'm pretty healthy, I never get sick even though everyone in the house does.

If you are that paranoid, you may want to consider giving the other cats a worm treatment at the same time. Otherwise you could end up in some infinity worm loop :)

ewwww! perhaps you're right. I have to take the kitty in this week for a follow up poop exam, so hopefully she's dewormed from what we've been giving her. If not, they're all getting medicine!

Did the vet happen to tell you what the worm was?

The reason I ask is some helminths that are found in animals will not infect human hosts.

Question: Could you get worms from your cat?

Question 2: How do you get rid of intestinal parasites in humans?
 Quoting: eekers

In theory, you could get anything from any pet, but thew intestinal worms are usually associated with what you eat (and usually with infected pork's meat)

In the present day there's a lot of remedies on that. If you0're looking for something more natural and less pharmacological, mmmmh... try firstly with poleo mint tea.

Pretty common in cats.
And while it is possible you could end up infected it's also fairly unlikely.

As was mentioned before. Just make sure to wash you hands frequently especially around used cat litter.

Enzymes eat parasites. Normally you can get them at a independently owned health food store.
