I'm the same way, used to hear classical music in white noise.
Nowadays, when I hear a repetitive noise with a constant frequency, my mind creates music around it.
Probably doesn't help I am self-taught on guitar, bass, percussion and drums.

I just throw it all in the "who the hell knows" category along with voices, etc, etc. Have you ever tried long-duration sleep deprivation, without the aid of drugs ? That's when the really creepy shit happens  I've met my limitations before, they won. There are some things forever seared into my memory. We'll just leave them there....LOL!
