Yep, she makes my heart melt every day I come home from work. She gives me a huge hug, and snuggles into me. I just couldn't ask for a better dog.

She's a pitbull/shepard mix. She does look more like a pit than a shepard though, especially structure wise.

Thanks for the karma friends! I knew some of you would appreciate this, considering our pitbull thread yesterday.

I just wish people would give them a chance before shunning them as they do. I wouldn't trade my dog for any other in the world!

Not to mention, they have just as much right to be here as you or I, if not more.

She is raised with love and kindness. She was trained with compassion, and she knows who her master is.

Most people just don't know how to train a dog properly, or give them the love and attention they need. You can't chain them or cage them, and expect them to love you for it. You also can't let them think they run the house, or they will become aggressive. She knows her place in the family, she is loved, but she knows to respect her boundaries as well, even at 6 months old.

Again, misinformed and uneducated.

Well, not really, karma doesn't mean a damn thing to me. If you knew me personally, you'd know that I care very little about other peoples opinions. Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one. That doesn't make them special, and I'll be damned if they do anything to interfere with my daily life.

just make sure YOU are the boss, and you don't treat her like a baby.

She is a dog, you are the pack leader. Your word is law no matter how SHE wants to do things.

She should ask permission to do anything, including walking away from you, greeting anyone, eating anything, going to the bathroom.

It is YOUR responsibility to give your dog proper training, most dog owners treat their dogs like children, worse yet babies, and this is HORRIBLE for the dog, it breaks the dog.

She is lovely, I hope you are doing the right thing by her.

That's a Chihuahua! Bad example. I had a girl show me pictures of her severed Achilles's tendon after her 3 pitbulls of 6 years, decided to go ape shit on her in the apartment. She said putting them down afterwards, was like having to kill her own children. Her boyfriend came in an managed to save her life, don't ask me how!

Point is, it's not all nurture folks. That's all I'm saying. It's NOT ALL NURTURE. If you have a hell-hound for pet, you may have a long-term best friend, but even best friends, get pissed sometimes.

Oh yes, and that is something I've had to drill in to my GFs head as well.

She knows I'm the boss, and she knows to listen to me. The GF started off wanting to spoil her, but we've cleared that up. At 6 months old, she knows her boundaries in her yard, and she knows not cross them, even when we have 4-5 dogs living right next door. She'll go right to the edge of the yard, but she won't cross over it.

We are giving her all the training she needs, we're working on heel now, and she seems to be grasping the concept very well. I know pitbulls are very smart, but I think a lot of it is the shepard in her.

One thing you forgot though, you can't let them get bored. They need to be constantly simulated, mentally and physically, which is a bit more difficult to accomplish when we both work. We try our best though, and thanks for the response.
