Re: SPIDERS!!! SPIDERS!!! Too many spiders in my house!! HELPFUL INFO PLEASE.
I have all kinds of spiders in and around my house. Black widows, brown recluses, other varieties. I don't like them, but I don't like the toxic solutions, either. Usually, they stay far enough away from me. I suppose we 'co-exist' or I'm in a healthy state of denial.
 Quoting: YankeeRose555

Mine are the 'in your face' variety. Like I said

earlier. They only come out at night and creep

up the vents and terrorize then. Very nasty

little creatures.
 Quoting: Almylo

Well, if mine start behaving that way, I will have to do something about them. My hope is that spiders never mutate and grow wings.

lol

Do you guys get crane flys over there?

Not technically spiders, but I've seen plenty of people run from these because of the resemblence lol.

And all this time, I thought they were big mosquitoes. lol Yep, we have them here. They don't bother me.

Step one open all your doors and windows wide.

Step two, announce loudly to the spiders that there will very soon be a free cicada feast outside, the likes of which they will not see for another 17 years.

Once they're all outside close everything.

Re: SPIDERS!!! SPIDERS!!! Too many spiders in my house!! HELPFUL INFO PLEASE.
Every Spring and throughout the Summer until freeze up
we have to deal with 'largish' black house spiders.
Can't take it anymore! There must be a solution.
I have cats and a dog, so the 'solution' must be safe for
children & pets. I know there must be several GLPers
who have dealt with this issue.

Please help a household of squeamish 'girls' !!

Eeeeeeeeeeeee. LOL.scared

You have a crawl space under the house? If so take some stuff called Boric Acid, you can buy at Lowes for like $3 a bottle, and do a line all around the foundation inside then start in the back corner and spray it into the air as you walk back to powder under the entire house.

Once you're done you can then go into your home, again spray a perimeter line all around your home and then do a lite spray over your carpets (don't go high into the air to avoid getting it on counters and stuff) for 2-3 weeks then vacuum it up. I do the Boric Acid under the house/addict every single year to keep them out and I see no bugs/spiders at all.

Boric Acid is a dehydrating agent so it's 100% safe for kids/animals to eat and even if they ate half the bottle they only NEED to have water at their disposal to prevent any harm. Spiders/ants/etc will get it on their feet and when they clean themselves off they can't get enough water and thus die. It wont kill mice or rats so it wont harm small children or lap dogs/cats.

We have lap dogs (Maltese) and we never had any issues when we had to do it. I also did it when my Collie was 3 months old and she rolled in the stuff daily and no harm ever came to her (lived to be 15 years old)

Check the stuff out...it's safer then anything you will ever find for this job.

Boric acid sounds good. I'm also a fan of diatomaceous earth. Won't harm the kids or pets, but has to be food grade.

Yes, I'm ripe with ideas now.

Thank you for stopping by and

for the excellent info. I'm going

to look into that diatomaceous earth as well.

Re: SPIDERS!!! SPIDERS!!! Too many spiders in my house!! HELPFUL INFO PLEASE.
I'm a big, ugly former soldier who absolutely hates spiders. I can't even catch them. I'm a bloke who vacuums them up and puts duck tape over the hoze nozzle so they can't make a break for it. Luckily, I've got the situation sorted now.

Citrus/citronella oils in a spray - check

Citrus/citronella tealights - check

Lemon Pledge - check

Betterware spider stop - check

I use them all from spring to autumn and hardly see a spider now, which is clearly superior in my book than trapping the buggers on sticky tape. Spray them about each week, light up the candles and keep'em out in the first place.

And I do wish people would stop "quoting" posts with images of spiders. There's no need for it and that youtube vid of the bloke looking up at some monstrous spider is doing my nerves no good.

Bah.

I have been told spiders don't like menthol smells... try like a humdifier with vicks or get some menthol oil and put around the inside perimeter of the house. Just a thought!

If you have no cats inside then you can use a product from amazon called : Demon WP.
But ONLY if you want NO spiders at all!!! ....THIS IS WHAT PROFESSIONALS USE, so PLZ be sure to buy a sprayer b/c you have to mix it with water.
If you spray outside around the perimeter too after you spray inside then the following next 3 months you may not have to spray " as heavy" inside. Just be sureto do you're attic , closets, above doorways, in laundry rooms, ect.
Best of Luck! They creep me out bad too!!

Re: SPIDERS!!! SPIDERS!!! Too many spiders in my house!! HELPFUL INFO PLEASE.
OP,

Mix equal parts of confectioners sugar and boric acid in a plastic bag. Using a plastic spoon, place a small amount on little pieces of foil. Place the foil inside cabinets, and other places the pets can't reach. The boric acid will dehydrate them, and the sugar will clog their legs and bodies. Sure death. It will kill ants and roaches as well.

Also, you might try this: Most house pests hate eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and citrus oils like orange or lemon. Add a few drops to a spray bottle, add water, shake and spray around doors, cracks and crevices. Repeat twice a week. Anything harsh smelling that we don't like, the spiders will not like as well.

They don't like the smell of apple cider vinegar. Spray ac vinegar around the kitchen or places you see the spiders.

Some of the smaller roach baits will attract spiders, pick up a few of those and place them up in high areas. On the fridge or behind the stove.

Finally, buy some sticky tapes for insects. The spiders will crawl on the tapes, become stuck there, and you can bag the whole thing and throw it away. You can make your own sticky tapes from masking tape. Just place the tape sticky side up, and trap the spiders.

Good luck.

BE VERY CAREFUL USEING ESSENTIAL OILS IN YOUR HOME IF YOU HAVE SMALL PETS SUCH AS CATS!!! MOST CITRUS OILS ARE TOXIC TO CATS. IF THEY TRY TO PLAY WITH THE COTTON BALL , WITH CITRUS INFRUSED OILS INCL.PEPPERMINT...YOU WILL HAVE A DEAD KITTY. IT ACTUALLY CAUSES A BAD DEATH FOR THEM & ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT KNOW THAT THIS IS SO DEADLY FOR THEM.

Great IDEAS !!!!! I can do all that stuff. Ahhhhhhhhh

Sigh. I feel alot better about my spidey sitiation now.

I get pretty hyped up about the whole thing.

I just knew GLPers were the answer. As usual:

YOU GUYS ROOOOCK !!!!!

Get some of these, they work awesome for spiders. I spray the outside of the house in the spring and fall and put the traps around where the kids and animals won't get into them. Lots of black widows this year outside, none inside so far.

That's what we use for the invasion of stink bugs we've had the past two years. I hate using pesticides, but they were all over our house and eating all our plants. This stuff worked great at getting rid of them.
