Quite simply there are too few rangers to cover thousands of square miles of bush......... and they are poorly equipped. Bush roads are few and have to be re cut every year. Vehicles are few and far between, at least dependable ones. Supplies and fuel are very expensive to get and move in the back country for support. The only cure to the problem is to get rid of the Asian market that drives this. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38864203 Park director António Abacar was quoted as saying this week that no rhinos had been seen since January, "which means that the ones that lived in the park are probably dead," according to the Portugal News. With all the rhinos gone, poachers are now turning to elephants for their tusks. The horns and tusks are valued for their supposed medicinal value, despite the fact that horns are made of the same basic material as fingernails, with no healing properties. [link to www.livescience.com] PETA needs to establish a $5 or $10K bounty for the severed heads of poachers. Private industry has practical solutions for most problems. Ummm verifying the heads brought in are poachers is somebody else's problem.  |

It's just funny that a rhino has to die for someone to realize how horrible people are. |
