Overkill by US police and the "news"

Overkill, that's what I'd call the manhunt in Boston.
Made me think of the OJ car-case years ago, when they followed the white Bonco with more or less 20 police cars.
20 cops rushing in on one person, like I see in those reality cop shows over and over again.
Now 10.000 police shutting doen the whole of Boston?
For one suspect?

Must've been paradise for regular criminals the last 2 days in Boston, no cops chasing them. Any numbers on shoplifting, break-ins and such commited in Boston over the last 2 days?

I guess the overkill reaction is to get the publilc used to it.
I have the luxury to be able to follow the news from 4 countries where I live, and what I saw on CNN (US, not international) was deeply disturbing. 24 hours of repeats, empty talk from uninformed newscasters, speculations and hear-say. Is that waht you get for news in the US?
The BBC at least fused in some other news for 30 minutes of each hour. German and Dutch news had the story as opening item, but spend no more than 5 minutes on it.
Fearmongering is what I call US news.
The only real news I get from the US is on Comedy Central, sad, ain't it.
