Quoting: smokahontas I posted on another thread, that I showed the videos to a career military person, who has participated in classified intel and works in this. He has been in combat many times, and that the "whistle" noise is w/o question, in his opinion, a missile of some type. The explosion, he said, is not a plume, backdraft, or a pocket of toxic material exploding. There is an "incoming" noise and then an explosion that blows out. In his professional opinion and experience around military drills and explosions...this was not an accident from fertilizer exploding. In his opinion only. Thank YOU!!!! His expression when we watched the videos together, concerned me more than ever. He looked at me with such a serious look and concern after viewing...and, because I know what he does for a living and his military past...I knew in that moment, this was no accident. I will keep adding the more I show him. I think it is important to get opinions of those in the know. And, thank you for posting the thread |

As I recall, someone mentions to them they were fairly sure it was a plane that crashed into the plant - but I can see, especially when you are not expecting it or watching for it, a plane and a missile being easily confused. User ID: 1643395 United States 04/18/2013 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It really does look like a missile.. Nothing i can think of can say its not o.o /pin request and 5*s Quoting: AtsuiPanda It really does,, More importantly sounds like one... Best footage Ive seen yet. I DEFINITELY see an object on the left but Im just wondering is it possible that something from inside the fire blows up and shoots something up and out of the fire. I moved in with my elderly parents after my dad had a stroke 2 years ago. Now we are like the three muscateers. I kept buying gallons of water and can goods each time I went for groceries and if on-sale stacks of bottled water...finally Mama politely asked whats up with all the water. I finally came out and told her. I think it went well, the other day she was talking to a real estate lady. I asked why? She said , I was reading and we need a bug-out place...hehe true story! Well enough about me. |

This being said most subsonic munitions are short range. Think AGM, Hellfire, Patriot GEM-C, hell even a javelin. That is if the audio is perfectly in sync and the fertilizer itself left the crater. ETA: Then we have the angle of projectile, it's low, like really for something that is point to point, like a javelin or TOW. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38395255 Do you realize the amount of permits and safety codes would be in place for an infrastructure holding fertilizer and possible risk of explosive or hazardous material? 1) Gas lines wouldn't be just wiggling or floating loosely about from a fire (started in the office/storage area first) 2) This place would be up to code for fire safety Quit shilling |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 142629 New Zealand 04/18/2013 09:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK how about this. Can nitrate boil off and vaporize? And the smoke cloud comes in contact with a separate ignition source and the races back to the primary fire , thus the shockwave of the ignited-heavily oxygenated deflegrating gas cloud detonates the primary fuel source. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30699297 The screaming sound is the air/gas mixture racing back to the source? Just trying to hypothesize an alternate explanation. good hypothesis Funny, that was my first assumption from what I could hear. Even hollywood fakes it in some explosion audio fx for authenticism. A missile never came to mind without visual evidence of one. The "glow" that sweeps left to right across the key 2-3 frames looks like exposure glare originating from the distant smoke/vapour cloud flash ignition to the left of the trees. |
