Switch to archery hunting. Save the ammo.

Re: Major Ammo "Shortage"
Without getting into too much detail, let's just say my work allows me to visit a lot of gun shops and sporting goods stores.

No one, and I repeat, no one has .223 or 22 LR, and on the rare occasions suppliers get some, it is gone immediately. 9mm is nearly impossible to find, and recently even .357 and 40 caliber has disappeared (both were available as recently as a month ago).

The following calibers ARE readily available, and I am thinking of buying into these calibers myself:

- Pretty much all shotgun shells are readily available everywhere
- .17, .22 magnum, .250, .243, 44 mag, .45
- Sometimes I will find .38 special, 30-30, and oddball calibers like 7mm mauser or .303 british.
- Interestingly, 5.45 x 39 (AK 74) is readily in bulk as surplus, as is 7.62 x 54 (Mossin Nagant).

So if you don't own guns and want to stock up while you can still buy, I would buy a .17 cal, 12 gauge shot gun, .243 deer rifle, AK 74 assualt rifle, Mossin Nagant bolt action rifle, a 44 magnum revolver, or a 1911 .45.

You can still buy at gun shows. New .223 ammo goes for .80-1.00 per round. Reloads run .50-.70 round. .22 long rifle will run you at least .10 a round, as high as .40 per round.

You can find it online, but you need to check www.gunbot.com constantly to find a decent deal, otherwise you will get burned bad.

Hope this helps someone...

You can't reload the 5.45 and 7.62 rounds, can you? (Actually asking the question.)

Yes you can reload them, 5.45 is a bit harder to find boxer primed, 762x39 and 762x54R are both available in boxer primed cases. Berdan primed which is most of the imported stuff has to be converted to boxer or hard to get berdan primers.

Bows and arrows will be next. Ironically, they're balls-on accurate and absolutely lethal. I should consider a new crossbow before they're outlawed. DHS will find a way to make the bolts go away.

Re: Major Ammo "Shortage"
First time we've seen the Sun here in NH in awhile. I'd like to strap on the snowshoes and go shoot up some crap in the woods. And then, the $1+/round realty check quickly sets in. Reminds me of the scene in "The Shining." Jack Nicholson plants one on the super-hot, naked chick in the tub and then opens his eyes. It's like that.
