Went on Cheaper Than Dirt, all but 1 overpriced brand of 9mm out of stock. Went to Bass Pro Shop and both the ammo and handgun racks shelves were almost bare. Employees had no clue when or if more would be available. Quoting: FuzzyLumpkin Let me know if your state is any better, I am in IL! All Wal-Mart's in SW Missouri. No handgun ammo. Only a few 12 ga and 410s. A few pawn shops have handgun ammo, but it is way overpriced! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26795689 United States 03/18/2013 07:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The gun ranges must be hating this shortage... No one wants to go to the range anymore because they have no idea when they'll be able to restock on ammo.... Quoting: ANHEDONIC I was out at the local state run gun range 2 sundays ago when it warmed up, here in Ohio. I got there late in the day and it was still busy. They said it was packed earlier. $24 for the 10 month season. I wonder how the private indoor ranges are fairing.... I would imagine some of that activity could be from individuals who just purchased firearms or at least have stocked up on ammo? I only ever go to an indoor range and my buddy and I are reluctant to go again because there is no telling how long the wait will be before we can purchase more ammo. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 35212804 United States 03/18/2013 07:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work for the US's largest producer and distributor of tactical hand gun ammunition, ask me a question. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24311504 No seriously, our projections for back order, and new contracts with global alphabet agencies is a jaw dropper. I feel like I'm working for satan, or at least satan's bottom bitch. Ammunition is not being squeezed/pinched from the shelves, it is literally being purchased by the public at theses shelf clearing speeds. Along with guns. We are 5.6 billion rounds back ordered (these are paid orders) for 22LR alone. That's roughly 3 1/2 years of 24 hr production of product, we are behind. Don't get me started about 40S&W or 5.56 All going to DSHS and ICE Chilling thought Ammunition producers are now in the back pocket of the PTB, and business is booming. This doesn't make sense. Where are the GSA contracts to substantiate this? Furthermore, the retail value of the ammo far-and-away exceeds what the gov't would have negotiated the price for. What stockholder or capital investor would be willing to give anything away? I just show up. I am a lowly assembler privy to stats and graphs displayed at company meetings. I'm not claiming to be on the inside, with special intel from my uncle at the top. Just a working mans prospective of the situation from the inside of a ammunition production facility, mixed with the for cite of someone not as sleep, or smugly skeptical. I completely understand x504. We're all just looking for that kernel of evidence beyond a shadow of a doubt to deliver in a slam-dunk to the punk on duty at the local congressman/senator's office. |

Roughly a month or so ago, Magpul was still offering discounted 30-round magazines in quantities of 10 to military and law enforcement. The only thing they required was verification of the buyer's identity using a .mil, .le, etc. email extension. It was a one-time buy per person, but clearly offered proof that the only people taking in the seat are unwitting civilian gun owners. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25450407 United States 03/18/2013 07:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Was in the local Wal-Mart, Dick's, and Meijer's over the last couple of days and they still had a sprinking of shotgun ammo, plus a few of odd size stuff, but the typical sizes were totally gone. Our area has been out of 22LR for a few weeks now whereas in the past they had all sorts of different bricks available. A wide assortment of Guns do appear to be available around here and there does NOT appear to be panicky buying of guns ... but what is the point of buying a new gun if you can't get ammo for it? I think the ammo situation is holding back gun buying ... but that is just my opinion. With the pent up demand you would think someone would think about opening a new production line at least for the high volume 22LR, 223, and 9mm ammo. The ROI should be pretty high, particularly if they can demand solid orders with DEPOSITS for the production. |

Could get some enormous pressures that way and less temperature dependent than gunpowder. More consistent. Government is a body largely ungoverned. |

I am no spring chicken but I have never, ever, witnessed this sort of "shortage"! I always buy what I need, and stash an extra box for a rainy day. Strange things are afoot, stay alert. If people are truly hoarding, what is their fear? Has to be the financial markets and civil unrest; but that is still weird to me. Zombies maybe.. Last Edited by Rev. Quoting: obviously 6302433 A:You make it look like people are panic buying guns and ammo and then you drop the supply to almost nothing so people will clean the shelves bare in seconds after a shipment hits them. The Satanicly owned ammo and gun companies go into hyperdrive providing ammo to the Gov and Foreign troops that Will be used to contain and kill all who resist the New World Order and profess freedom and liberty. I've hoped against hope that this theory was wrong. Pinned my dreams on its debunkers. Alas, I cannot divorce my mind from the simple logic of it. I honestly believe that ammunition is purposefully being purchased by the fedgov to keep it out of the public's hands. Let's hope they're simply planning to withstand an angry public, rioting furiously over the vapors of what was the economy. Let's hope they're not planning to "round us up" / confiscate firearms in a Stalinist takeover. It's plain that the Obama admin is purposely infringing on our 2nd amendment rights by buying up all the ammo in sight. Why isn't someone suing them or something? why isn't someone in Congress stopping them? |
