Anonymous Coward User ID: 35212804 United States 03/18/2013 03:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's inexplicable. This goes WAY beyond a matter of supply and demand. Olin alone can knock out a million rounds a day. How many other ordinance manufacturers are there? Loads of them. Furthermore, there's been no discussion of surplus ammo or imports from Wolf, PRVI, etc. drying up. No, this absurd condition has undoubtedly been engineered. I've had a rifle on order since DEC 2012. Same situation. I was #3 on a list for the same weapon when I ordered it. The manufacturer is less than an hour from the retailer, who incidentally has a direct relationship with them. I was informed in FEB by the manufacturer that they were meeting production schedules and 90-days out on the model I ordered. I figured, worst-case scenario, I should see it no later than 28MAR2013 if I applied that information. I have heard NOTHING from the manufacturer or the retailer to date, and the 28th is rapidly approaching. If I didn't know better, I'd allege the gov't is somehow stockpiling weapons or paying manufacturers not to produce them. |

Then filter search by "last hour"...every now and then you'll get lucky and catch a new shipment with a fair price just before they sell out. instead of web search you can click on discussions and some people will post a site they found that just got ammo in. idk worked for me. Anonymous Coward User ID: 14016885 United States 03/18/2013 05:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Without getting into too much detail, let's just say my work allows me to visit a lot of gun shops and sporting goods stores. No one, and I repeat, no one has .223 or 22 LR, and on the rare occasions suppliers get some, it is gone immediately. 9mm is nearly impossible to find, and recently even .357 and 40 caliber has disappeared (both were available as recently as a month ago). The following calibers ARE readily available, and I am thinking of buying into these calibers myself: - Pretty much all shotgun shells are readily available everywhere - .17, .22 magnum, .250, .243, 44 mag, .45 - Sometimes I will find .38 special, 30-30, and oddball calibers like 7mm mauser or .303 british. - Interestingly, 5.45 x 39 (AK 74) is readily in bulk as surplus, as is 7.62 x 54 (Mossin Nagant). So if you don't own guns and want to stock up while you can still buy, I would buy a .17 cal, 12 gauge shot gun, .243 deer rifle, AK 74 assualt rifle, Mossin Nagant bolt action rifle, a 44 magnum revolver, or a 1911 .45. You can still buy at gun shows. New .223 ammo goes for .80-1.00 per round. Reloads run .50-.70 round. .22 long rifle will run you at least .10 a round, as high as .40 per round. You can find it online, but you need to check www.gunbot.com constantly to find a decent deal, otherwise you will get burned bad. Hope this helps someone... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 32328802 United States 03/18/2013 05:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to Gander Mtn, no handgun ammo period. Went on Cheaper Than Dirt, all but 1 overpriced brand of 9mm out of stock. Went to Bass Pro Shop and both the ammo and handgun racks shelves were almost bare. Employees had no clue when or if more would be available. Quoting: FuzzyLumpkin Let me know if your state is any better, I am in IL! LMAO... sorry don't mean to be a dick but it's been gone for a LONG LONG TIME... and it ain't coming back anytime soon. Hope you have some stocked up because IT'S GONE!!!!!!!!! I feel like I'm working for satan, or at least satan's bottom bitch. Ammunition is not being squeezed/pinched from the shelves, it is literally being purchased by the public at theses shelf clearing speeds. Along with guns. We are 5.6 billion rounds back ordered (these are paid orders) for 22LR alone. That's roughly 3 1/2 years of 24 hr production of product, we are behind. Don't get me started about 40S&W or 5.56 All going to DSHS and ICE Chilling thought Ammunition producers are now in the back pocket of the PTB, and business is booming. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 20867458 United States 03/18/2013 06:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just came back from a gun show, .22 LR was gone within minutes, big shots came in, paid above asking price and left with all the bricks. Some vendors closed right there for the day, some left to go resupply and came back with minimal stuff. $50 for a brick of Federal is what I saw. At the end of the first day there were no .9mm or .22 left, some .45 higher end and a lot of oddballs. 7.62 russian in those beige metal cases were going for $11o a piece, and you could buy a chinese rebuilt rifle (Mosin copy?) for about $150 |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 35963626 United States 03/18/2013 06:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | None here in OK either, the funny thing is, its not like I see some huge lines for ammo, I've been there whenever they get it from the back room at times, and usually it is only a few boxes of this and a few boxes of that, it never looks like they are really trying to restock anything, and now it's been months. This is by design, simple supply and demand would drive ammo producers to produce more in order to meet demand while the money was there to be made. I haven't seen any one brand name that has ramped up production to take advantage of this opportunity. |
