Why did everyone worry about December 21st when the calendar actually "ends" March 31st???

The date would be March 20th.

The Mayan calendar was a celestial one, the only argument being over whether it began on the southern solstice or the northward equinox.

As order is meant to bring balance, an ordered calendar would logically begin on an equinox as opposed to a solstice.

Where do you get the March 31st data from?

What celestial event takes place on the 31st that the Mayans would have construed to be a significant occurrence?

Why was that not mentioned 3 months ago? Because it was completely overlooked that the mayan tzolkin calendar (one of the interlocking calendars to the long count) was still running its current cycle when the long count "ended" on Decembr 21 2012. How can the great cycle be complete when one of its interlocking calendars is still going? Now that calendar finishes its cycle on 31/3/2013. That is the important date as opposed to December 21st. Will anything happen or will it be the end of the world or beginning of a new age? Well we will just have to wait and see. But 31/3/13 falls on "13 ahau", an important day for the mayans. It has been stated by Don Alejandro (Mayan Elder) that on this very day 31/3/2013 there will be "3 days of darkness" and we will enter "The Mayan Sixth Sun". Also there is a mayan prophecy stating "At the time of the 13th baktun and 13 ahau (31/3/2013) the ancestors and the men of wisdom will return."

Has OP done the research himself to know that the tools being used to convert Mayan dates to Gregorian ones are accurate?

For what it's worth, I don't believe any perceptible change in the world will ever be tied to any date except in a posthumous, manipulated way by TPTB. I find it amusing, though, that tards don't even fact check with Mayan beliefs when regurgitating whatever potential doom date they come across.

If you want to believe Mayan doom, you need to at least tie your belief in with a significant, repeating celestial event, otherwise you just look like a moran.

first off, I'm not looking for doom.

secondly, I, too, often wondered whether tptb completely made up the dates. who knows whether the start year is accurate. and what's with all their doom pushing?

thirdly though, why don't you actually read the web pages OP linked to?
you'd see that they never disputed 21/dec/2012 as the 'end' date of the long count calendar. but it is the author's opinion that the Tzolkin is more important, and that ends on 13 Ahau, which is 31/Mar/2013.

I find that interesting, because I've watched these Don Alejandro vids so often, and never realized that he was talking about THAT date and not the end of the long count.
