High-Z cosmic rays aren't stopped by Earth's rather feeble magnetic field. Astronauts in LEO occasional experience this too. So? There's radiation out there. There's radiation everywhere. The question is HOW MUCH? Hoaxies never can put any numbers to it. They just fantasised a 'searing radiation hell' they can't proof exists. You haven't demonstrated that they couldn't make it. You haven't demonstrated that they faked it. You've only asserted these things. You haven't demonstrated any lies. You've only asserted these things. Assertions aren't facts. To proof your accusations you will have to present evidence. Not lies. Not hilariously funny misunderstandings of how reality works. Not inuendo. Not arguments from ridicule or arguments from ignorance. EVIDENCE. Think you can do that? It wasn't in 1972. What makes today different, if not worst? Pretty hard to beat American Idol or the Superbowl. Most people don't care about reality. The Coca-Cola Company is very well aware of that. 250 miles up and bing bang boom. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35902674 x-rayed in your can till your skin cracks and you cook like a bratwurst! Why do hoaxies have such a hard time understanding that pulling stuff out of their colons only makes them look silly. X-rays aren't stopped by the VARBs, btw. You have just declared all manned space travel impossible. Arguing from a position of ignorance will not have people take your 'opinion' serious. Reaching for the sky makes you taller. Hi! nomuse (not logged in) User ID: 2380183 United States 03/17/2013 02:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "Radiation everywhere." Always worth underlining. You tear a strip of sticky tape, you are producing x-rays. If you have an old-style monitor or TV, a wide spectrum of beta radiation -- some of which is reaching you. A fraction of the air you breath is C-14, naturally produced in the upper atmosphere. Your very bones are radiating at you (the Kr-40, mostly) and you can't very well run away from THEM! You take a flight in an airplane, you are receiving a heightened dose. Live in a house made with granite, or move to the Rockies, you get a heightened dose. Radiation from a hundred sources is slamming into our bodies every day. You actually get a smaller total exposure if you go swimming in the containment pool of a nuclear reactor -- the water moderates some of what is around you already (just don't swim too deep!) (Of course, as someone pointed out; go swimming in the pool of a research reactor and you are likely to get a toxic dose of kinetic energy poisoning. Especially these days!) The point is not that "radiation" is safe, it is that it has a wide range. A sample of uranium ore good enough for a high school science experiment with a scintillator could stay harmlessly in your desk drawer for decades. Getting close enough to touch a spent fuel rod, on the other hand, is enough to get you a fatal dose. Or as the old dude put it, the dose makes the poison. |

If you prefer strict empiricism, then the first EME was performed in 1946. Nineteen FORTY-six! Project Diana, by the by. Which is to say...twenty three years before Apollo 11, they'd already received a radio signal from the Moon. By the time Apollo 11 landed, they'd done it a few more times from various spacecraft -- such as the Rangers, which sent back pictures of the surface they were moments away from slamming into. Or the Surveyors, one of which was remotely commanded to take off again, lift a few meters above the ground, then settle back down again. The imagery of Ascent Module take-off was taken on Rover missions, which came a few years after Apollo 11. By that time they'd been remotely controlling a television camera on the surface of the Moon, and receiving detailed telemetry. In fact, the guy who was running the camera for the take-off was the same guy who'd been pointing it at astronauts for hours at a time. You'd figure after a couple eight-hour shifts of that he'd know how long the lag was, right? Why don't hoaxies ever know anything about the history of the program? I'm tempted to ask them about some obscure bit of Roman military history to see if they hold true to the pattern of disbelieving all those things they know little about. |

By the time the LM ascent was followed by camera Apollo had five landings. The footage is from Apollo 17. That means 11, 12, 14, 15, and 16 had already landed. It is easy to figure the delay, take the distance to the Moon and divide by the speed of light. All the operator had to do was start to pan the camera 1.3 seconds before launch. Why are such simple concepts so difficult for you? You see, people with math skills can actually figure things out ahead of time. |
