Not exactly a great premise for dragging the greatest nation on earth into protracted war which was never meant to be won (i.e., for example, U.S. pilots were prohibited from bombing North Vietnamese antiaircraft sites until they were completed and able to shoot down U.S. planes).

The filthy lying thieving warmongers got their war, yanked the dollar from the gold standard, criminally suppressed dissent (that would be The Rule Of Law, which also featured the Government bringing in planeloads of heroin from Laos through South Vietnam, just in time for Nixon's war On Drugs back home).

They had their news media whores, film whores, Fed goons, and that generation watched I Love Lucy and The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriett (she & Ozzie never left the house in 12 years), etc.

They gave Bob Dylan the essentials for his stanzas in "Murder Most Foul". Yes, Bob is Theirs, too.

If you 'follow the money' the Vietnam War was the next event, the real goal was the Golden Triangle opium. Between 1967-2001 they were the main suppliers until NATO was in Afghanistan. At that time, production in Afghanistan increased about the same amount production in the Golden Triangle went down.
With two opium fields being lost to the World Bank that only leaves them with Northern Europe. The countries below Finland could bolt from NATO and join Russia.
Growing just enough opium for 'local consumption' the global control they have would shrink even more.
The US could prevent a civil war in North America by growing nothing but opium in Kansas. Hemp would be the 'cash crop' with export potential.
