Removing cat benign tumor with elasticator (rubber band)
My beloved cat has a benign tumor that has grown to be very large and uncomfortable (about the size of two golf balls). Because she is 20 years old, vets do not want to risk surgery.

A vet wants to put an elasticator ring (rubber band) on it so the blood supply to it will be cut off and it will fall off in 7-10 days.

He says he has done it to other animals successfully and I know this method has been used to castrate sheep and cattle and even remove tails.

Has anyone else had their vet use this method to remove a tumor or growth? Is it safe? Was it successful? Any problems, discomfort, etc?

I am yet to find another vet who has used this method - though need to remove this from my cat somehow as its weight is distressing her every day.

Thank you!

No experience with it but it sounds safer and less stressful than surgery. Sometimes simple and old school is the best way to go. Best wishes to you and your kitty.

There was a post about a woman whose cat had a tumor and she used a product with blood root powder in it, and it fell off. There were other videos as well that had tumors and growths who used the product and it just shriveled up and fell off. Not joking. It was amazing.

I'll see if I can find it.

I want to thank you for replying to my question. This is the first time I have ever posted on a public forum, and in this 'time of need' I am really touched to receive your advice. I love my cat and this is a very troubling issue for me, so again I appreciate you reaching out.

I admit I am a bit fearful of the black salve after watching the vidoes in your link - only because of the discomfort it caused in some as well as uncontrollable bleeding in one cat. I will definitely consider it however.

I am all for natural therapies and am open to any other suggestions, and again I truly thank you for taking the time to respond. If anyone else has experience or knowledge on this (especially if anyone has successfully used an elasticator to remove a growth) please do let me know. Thank you so much again!

That's how they castrate cattle and they use it to remove hemroids.

You're welcome. hf I understand. You have to weigh everything you see or read on the internet, and make the decision that's best for you. It sounds as if the elasticator ring would be fairly harmless, and if the tumors are so large, it would be a quick and easy solution. I have no experience with it, though.

I can tell you that one of my chickens had an infection on the bottom of it's foot. It turned into a hard callous type thing that was about the size of a dime. Upon the suggestion of another chicken owner, I made a poultice out of Betadine (veterinary antiseptic solution), sugar, and I sprinkled a little blood root powder in it (the ingredient in the black salve). I put a little bit on a piece of gauze and wrapped the foot up with vet wrap. I did it three times and left it on a day or so each time. I gave up because it was so rainy outside and when I took the bandage off, it was all muddy. I didn't think it was doing much. I thought I would try again when the drier season starts.

Well, the other day, I happened to look at the chicken's foot, and I was surprised to see that there was a black thing a little larger than a watermelon seed attached by a thin string of skin. The skin underneath was completely smooth and healed! So I'm a believer in the blood root powder.

Anyway, I wish you well with your cat with whatever you choose to do, and hope you can get a speedy and painless resolution to your cat's situation. If your cat is 20 years old, it has had an exceedingly caring and good master. That's a long life for a cat.
