Does this mean all of our traffic is being monitored?

But that's illegal. They can't even eavesdrop on a phone conversation without a warrant.

Destroying Online Privacy: Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) Is Back
By Stephen Lendman
February 21, 2013

It shouldn’t surprise. The 2011 Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) never really went away. It ducked and covered for another day.

It’s more about destroying personal freedom than online security. It gives government and corporate supporters unlimited power to access personal/privileged information online.

Civil liberty protections are ignored. Security experts, academics, and other professionals expressed outrage. They called CISPA and John McCain’s SECURE IT Act measures that “allow entities who participate in relaying or receiving Internet traffic to freely monitor and redistribute those network communications” unjustifiably.

They encourage transferring private communications to government agencies. Accountability and transparency are lacking. Vague language describes network security attacks, threat indicators, and countermeasures.

Innocuous online activities can be called cyber security threats. Eroded privacy laws will be gutted. Web sites visited, personal emails, and other online contact may be freely accessed.

Obama’s State of the Union address stressed no-holds-barred cyber war. Earlier he declared waging it globally.

ISPs Now Monitoring for Copyright Infringement
By David Kravets
02.25.13

The nation’s major internet service providers on Monday said they are beginning to roll out an initiative to disrupt internet access for online copyright scofflaws.

The so-called “Copyright Alert System” is backed by the President Barack Obama administration and was pushed heavily by record labels and Hollywood studios.

The plan, more than four years in the making, includes participation by AT&T, Cablevision Systems, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon. Others could soon join.

Copyright Alert System Launches, U.S. ISPs to Get Infringement Notices This Week

The Copyright Alert System is not like other anti-piracy programs in other countries. Because it is not a "three strikes" program, infringers will not face termination of their Internet service.

And because it is a market-led solution, there are (((no criminal penalties or fines for the most serious offenders)))

Thank you, Roxy. For hours today I have been trying to reply to a thread, but could not because I had 3 web links imbedded. Pain in the a** I tell ya.
But more importantly, I feel actually scared now. This is really, really close. I will read your linked articles tomorrow when I have more time, so thanks again.
Yeah, for years we've been having various rights taken away bit by bit and the CISPA et. al. had been hovering. Music and movies are simply an excuse - the supposed reason behind it all. But this afternoon, with this current bad feeling in my gut, to have the years of concern of big gov come to a head. Surreal times.

Cablevision to Suspend Repeat Copyright Scofflaws, Comcast to Hijack Browsers
By David Kravets
02.28.13

Comcast is to begin hijacking browsers of its internet subscribers who are detected of repeatedly infringing on public file-sharing networks while Cablevision Systems said it would suspend subscribers for 24 hours after their fifth offense.

The punishment comes as the nation’s biggest internet service providers this week began rolling out the so-called “Copyright Alert System,” which is backed by the President Barack Obama administration and was heavily pushed by the recording and movie studios.

The plan, more than four years in the making, includes participation by AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon. Others could soon join.

Re: WTF!?! # ISPs MONITORING for COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT # Is It NOW SEEN As TERRORISM?
i was doing a little experiment with the phone:

I pulled the wire out of the jack and out of the modem; went to make a phone call a couple hours later forgetting i had disconnected everything; when i picked up the phone i could hear that the phone was still live.

So the only way you can disconnect your phone is by pulling the plug from the wall as well as from the computer etc.

We will need two computers now: one for the Information Highway (Internet) and one for doing - uh - business.- and i guess one for never hooking up to the Information highway.

It's a last ditch effort to get as much money as they can, while they can.
Think about this.
When the SHTF, when their money becomes worthless, when no one can afford to go to the movies, where will their money come from then?
They will all become has beens. All their acting won't do them a bit of good then.

so what happens if you do not buy internet from any of these companies? Instead you go to wifi hotspots and use the internet for free?
what are they going to do then? Punish the company that offers free wifi to it's customers?

Anyway, since the existence of computers those that have tried to control the internet have always been one step behind those that try to keep it free.
