Re: First Time Sleep Paralysis/Bedside Figure
I had them at random intervals for about 35 years (18-53). I learned to know when they were going to happen because I could feel the presence in the room when I went to bed. Yes terrifying.

I tried burning the Sage in the later years, I can't say that it worked that well. They finally ended when my mother died. Weird huh? I always thought it was my father trying to contact me, although it seems they carry other spirits with them, the evil ones.

My mother never would talk about it, but I think she had them as well. I believe when she crossed over she made them stop.

I've had them at all times of the day if I fell asleep. I only heard a voice once. All I heard was "Scochinse, I'll talk to you later". Never heard another word.

I'm just glad they are finally over. It's so nice to be able to go to bed and relax as I fall asleep.

Re: First Time Sleep Paralysis/Bedside Figure
By the way I hear people telling you what to do to wake up, for me there was always only ONE WAY........ close your eyes and relax and quite trying to struggle. Trying to move just locked me in the state.

Now if you are lucid dreaming trying to twist and turn when you feel the state slipping away helps me to stay in it.

Re: First Time Sleep Paralysis/Bedside Figure
They have been lurking around this week...i have seen them them at least three different nights. The ones i have seen don't move and are usually above a mirror and grasping their knees and legs with their arms. From a gnostic perspective, if you are being attacked it is because you are in the hell realms. Follow seers advice with the sage and salt.

please put a bowl of sea salt under your bed and in sprinkle in the four corners of your room. before falling asleep burn one or two leaves of dried white sage and cedar leaf. this will help keep entities away.

This will sound crazy to the dead heads here, but you are probably sleeping on a ghost line, as it's called. There are a number of solutions. One easy one is to place some orgonite in the room, where the presence feels strongest. This will end the SP type events. The other is to find where the line goes and hammer steel or other conductive rods into the soil just outside.

Re: First Time Sleep Paralysis/Bedside Figure
Good God, OP, that was a terrifying experience.

I've never had SP thank goodness, nor lucid dreams.

But one night I awoke to find a beautiful fair-haired young man sitting at a respectful distance beside me on my bed. I could describe him/his clothes in great detail even now 30 yrs on. But the most important thing was that his whole being was pure love. His eyes shone love at me, his gentle smile radiated love....

I was far from afraid. I felt very appreciated, safe, loved... I fell back to sleep within about 10mins.

I really don't know - was this young man an angel?? Was he from the future? (His clothes didn't look quite like ours) Needless to say there had been no break-in when I checked all the doors and windows the next day.

I wish everyone such a loving experience.

I used to have problems with sleep paralysis but it stopped after I got my cats. My oldest cat will sleep on the bed next to me at my feet watching the door like he is guarding me from something.

Sleep paralysis = Sleep peril is this.

You need to read the Urantia Book to understand what it is you are going through.

Re: First Time Sleep Paralysis/Bedside Figure
What I don't understand about SP is how damn evil the dreams are. Like nothing I could ever explain. I did some research and it is a common theme among those who have SP. even scientists are sure why this happens.

All I know is that when I have SP, it is seriously disturbing and not from this place.

Re: First Time Sleep Paralysis/Bedside Figure
Long-time lurker, second-time poster.

George Carlin said, "Nothing is as boring as listening to another person talk about their dream." I know that if anywhere that statement is not true and people ARE interested in each other's dreams - especially when it comes to sleep paralysis nightmares - it would be the GLP community.

Long story short: I had my first ever sleep paralysis episode which included a "visit" from the ubiquitous bedside figure. I am no stranger to nightmares or lucid dreaming; I have one at least one nightmare a month, and every three months or so, I have a nightmare so terrible that my mind has mercy on me – becomes lucid – and I am able to “divert” the attention of the nightmare antagonist until I can force myself to wake up. I was not able to do so this time.

I understand that shadow men and old hags are the most common bedside figures. During my dream, I saw a hooded figure, like a monk. Of course, I could not see his face, but he was definitely male.

In the dream, I’m sleeping in my bed from my childhood home. I open my eyes and the hooded-figure is standing to my left, in front of my bedroom window. It is night, but the moon is bright enough where I can see his robe is brown and he is holding a pillow. Again, I cannot see his face. He says, “Earth is being invaded. We are putting all of you out of your misery before things get too bad here.” I am not sure if he and his “kind” were doing the invading, or if it was something else doing the invading, and he was working for a third party. I did get the impression that there were billions of him, and one of each of his kind was in every household at that moment to kill everyone on the planet. He then started lowering moving the pillow toward my face in order to suffocate me. I did not get the impression that he was “evil.” Rather, the feeling I got from him was that this was just “business”. However, I think this is what made it all the more frightening because there would have been no negotiation, no pleading, no begging; he was simply there to get a job done – “they” ALL had a job to do, it was nothing personal. As usual, my mind tried to intervene because things were getting too scary. My mind tried to wake itself up, only this time, it wasn’t working. He was suffocating me with a pillow. Then suddenly, my mind woke up, but my body was still being suffocated. I tried to scream (in real life…I think) and tried to move to shake the last vestiges of the dream off, but I could not move. I was completely powerless. At last, my mind and my body finally synced, and I woke up officially, gasping for breath.

The nightmare aspect itself is not what's got me shaken up (this was FAR from the worst nightmare "plot" I've ever dreamed), it's the following that's blown my mind:

1. The absolute CLARITY of it; how 3-dimensional it was, for lack of a better term. The fear element was so REAL, that my reaction was stunned disbelief, which I believe is how I would react in real life if I were about to die, not just simple fear, but more like a "OMG this CAN'T be happening, not to ME!!" feeling. The plain old terror of “Aaaaagh, I’m being chased by zombies!” is almost cute compared to this.

2. The fact that I’ve experienced something that I’ve read about from many others, but not quite ever took seriously as a cultural-crossing event. It has been a challenge to my thought system. This must be what a person who sees a UFO or a ghost for the first time might feel like.

My question is this: did I experience something which for mysterious reasons millions have experienced throughout history, or did I dream this because it was embedded in my psyche due to reading others’ experiences?

Thanks, GLP! Sorry this is so long.

I don't know the answer to your questions.

But, I love the vivid details your descriptive recollection (not the nightmarish aspect).

A 3 foot shadow creature walked over to me in my dark basement and scratched calf. All my energy went to the creature, being drawn down as if I was falling. It got a taste of me...

I only worry if they are grey with huge eyes or in medical garb holding out a bedpan.
