Astronomers estimate that, when it’s closest to us, it’ll be within the orbit of the moon (which is about 240,000 miles away), and within the orbits of geosynchronous satellites. Quoting: Goneviral [link to earthsky.org] Er, um, huh? Calculations show that on February 15, 2013, the distance between the asteroid and Earth will be 0.000228 AU (34,100 km; 21,200 mi).[5] Quoting: WikiSource: [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

It was sighted again earlier this month and now there's a little bit of new astrometric data. We should start getting more new observations leading up to the 15th which will enable better refinement of the orbit and hopefully the ability to rule out a satellite collision. And earth collision is already ruled out. |

I have a feeling it will smack at least one satelite. I have seen a couple of articles suggesting it could come within 16-17000 from us. Bring it. |
