Have You Ever Felt These Strange Feelings?
I have experienced a few peculiar feelings in my life for which I have no name. They are too unique to fit into a common category such as: cheerful, blissful, calm, sad, angry, hopeless, guilty, shameful or anxious. These feelings deserve a classification of their own. I have given each feeling a descriptive name.

Calm Wonder Feeling

I remember a feeling I had in very early childhood. It is a vague memory, like a forgotten smell that you can nearly bring back to your nose. In later childhood, I could summon the feeling for brief moments by thinking about infinity, existence and self. I also felt it in dreams.

I smoked marijuana once and I had it come to me in full force. I lost my “ego” that night; perhaps it is related to the onset of “ego loss”

I can give a description of it from a psychological standpoint, but this does not do it justice: You recognize everything, but at the same time everything has a new feeling. It is like feeling wonder and calm but there is neither a positive or negative atmosphere to it.

Floppy Buzzy Meat-Puppet-Thing Feeling

This is again a feeling I can vaguely remember, but it happens to me on occasion. It usually happens after waking up from a nap at an odd time of day.

When I am in this state, my mind is constantly torturing me with the thought that I am a fragile, uncontrollable, meaty fluid container of improbability.

I feel as if I could relate to the dolls in this video:

For at least an hour after entering this state I cannot rid myself of constant thoughts of “What am I?” or “What are people?” or “What is love?”. It is not a curiosity thing; it is a self-torture thing. It is quite an unpleasant feeling. It also has a buzz to it. Not like the buzz when you meditate or have an out of body experience. It is a higher frequency head throbbing that is just on the verge of becoming a buzz.

Dull Deathish Sinking Fear Feeling

Before I explain, I would like to note that it is not sleep paralysis, sleep apnea or a panic attack.

I get this feeling when I have my regular sleep cycle interrupted. For example: I am sleeping for about a half an hour, then the cat knocks something over and it wakes me. I try to get to sleep but I am overwhelmed by the following:

I feel like I am dying, everything feels heavy and difficult. However, at the same time, I know that my body is fine. My mind then starts racing; worrying about family members, thinking about the fragility of life, thinking about all those who have passed, feeling mourning for each of them. This is a very unpleasant feeling.

It is similar in many ways to the Floppy Buzzy Meat-Puppet-Thing Feeling but much more negative.

I've experienced what's probably your calm wonder feeling before, or maybe something similar to it.

I feel you probably have.

These feelings are difficult to describe.

(I was hopeful that the descriptions would be sufficient to trigger recognition of the emotion.)

I think that these emotions must be universal in nature like the "common" ones.

Try to describe an emotion like sadness without having a word for it. I think it would be difficult… But the fact that others have felt it would enable them to relate to the description.

Re: Have You Ever Felt These Strange Feelings?
no, but i have twice in life experienced the strangest bodily feelings that i cannot describe well, both when i was young. It was as if my blankets were pieces of wood ontop of me that made me naseous, wanting to jump out own skin with discomfort. I was truly umcomfortable and nothing could touch my skin. Totally off topic but wanted to throw that out there. Anyone else??

Also, in describing an emotion without having a word for it, it is useful to use the situation in which it arises.

For example:

Sadness: It sometimes happens when someone calls me a mean name.

Not off topic at all.

I was hoping to hear about other strange feelings that others had.

I think I may know this one.

Its a highly confused state where logic doesn't work? I would get it in bed when stressed out.

Completely unrelated - but I just noticed you're posting from Canada ---- I'm experiencing multiple connections with Canada lately and I cannot figure out what it means... if anything. It's just very odd.

I guess that is a positive way to look at it!

I wonder if maybe I have a minor form of this. It also could be that messing with a sleep pattern causes similar effects.

Do you get any other intersting/unique feelings with TLE?

Well FatGoose, I cannot tell you why you are experiencing this Canada thing.

Maybee yoou'll be moovin' up here soon er somethin' eh?

It is not so bad in some parts of Canada. In my part of Canada we hardly have any snow, with mild temperatures in winter. Exept for this week. For some reason it is -11C out today.

Anyhow, I am glad to see that I am not alone in these feelings.

Memories themselves can bring on an almost feeling of the calm wonder feeling. I try to think back to when I was 2 years old, and I almost get the feeling.

Re: Have You Ever Felt These Strange Feelings?
Here is another feeling I thought of just now:

Mild Satisfaction from Patience and Nurturing Feeling

I get this feeling when working on something with as much care as I possibly can. It can range from crafting something to eating something. As long as I am putting all my focus on every aspect of my action, and calmly, patiently working out each step I receive a mild satisfaction.

It is not like normal satisfaction, where you feel a relief, or a great pleasure. It is just a constant nurturing comfortable feeling in which your only care in the world is the task at hand. There is not one bit of anxiety involved.

For some reason I also get this feeling when examining someone else’s work, craft, or actions. It sometimes occurs when looking at a high quality product in which care has obviously gone into the design.

I think this feeling is mostly a motherly thing. I am not a mother, but I think it is something like it. I get it most of all from caring for plants and gardens. I assume if I had a child I would receive this feeling as well.

It is very subtle, but a very warm and positive feeling.

I cannot get this feeling at all when hyped up on caffeine or any other stimulating thing like sugar.

Also, I am not talking about ASMR. although this feeling would arise in many ASMR causing situations.

Re: Have You Ever Felt These Strange Feelings?
Sometimes, I can close my eyes, and feel like I am a grain of sand in a seee of dark nothing, but the nothing has an electric tingle that lets me know I exist in its vast sea.
I almost visually see myself getting smaller and smaller as the reality of my place is brought to light.

Interesting, I think I may know what you are talking about.

I get something similar when I close my eyes and realize there is no difference between the blackness in front of me and the nothingness beyond my peripheral vision. I then perceive it as a giant infinite 360 degree space that encompasses me. At this point I feel like a tiny pinprick warmly wrapped in infinity. It can also switch to me feeling like I am wearing infinity on my head.

A nice feeling overall. Very calm.
