Re: The TSHTF guide to fish and bird antibiotics
I usually buy on eBay (for my fish, of courseohyeah). Just search the antibiotic name, such as amoxicillin, cephalexin, doxycycline, erythromycin, zithromax (or azithromycin), metronidazole, ect...

I always look at the seller feedback. A good one that I have had no problems with (and they also do fast shipping) is "aquaticpharmacy" I believe that Amazon has stopped selling most of these.

Good luck to you.hf

Re: The TSHTF guide to fish and bird antibiotics
This is a great thread. Thank you for posting this.

I'm having issues with a deep swelling in my gums. Its painful and half of my face is swollen.

Which antibiotic would you suggest for that because there are a few for tooth and gum issues.

Anybody know which ones would be most effective?

I'll report back my findings when I get them.

I have a bottle of Fish Mox Forte (Amoxicillin 500mg) that I've used for tooth issues and it worked as expected. I took 1 500mg twice a day for 6 days.

I also have the Fish Flex Forte (Cephalexin) in 500mg and would use that if Amoxicillin didn't work.

Just do a little research on antibiotics beforehand...

I'd rather go for medications meant for pigs/chickens/horses
at the local co-op.

I'm calling around to pet stores and nobody carries Fish Mox.

Any ideas where to get it in a pinch, instead of ordering it online?

Great thread OP! VERY important to have the knowledge BEFORE its too late to do anything about it. Here is another great source for your antibiotic prepping needs... Backdoor Survival. Great information on Gaye's site. Here are 2 articles that came out about a year ago about SHTF antibiotics and how to use them.

It has been my experience that you cannot find these fish meds locally. I order mine online. Order them now so you won't find yourself "in a pinch". hf The basic premise for prepping is so you don't get in a "squeeze"...you already have it at the ready.

Dear AC 47106638

While this is not intended as medical advice, and I suggest you see a qualified dentist or physician, the following information may be of some interest to you:

There are multiple antibiotics that are commonly used for gum abscesses and infections.
Some of these include Amoxicillin, Metronidazole, and Clindamycin. Clindamycin is often used in deeper tissues where there is less oxygen, (ie... anaerobic infections common in an abscess).

An abscess may require surgical drainage in order to heal properly. If your face is swollen, it sounds like you may have an abscess which can become serious, so I would recommend that you see a dentist ASAP. Periodontal disease may also exist in addition to an abscess and also as a possible preceding condition.

Small doses of doxycline or a topical doxycline gel may also be used:

Another alternative would possibly be topically applied oil of oregano or oil of clove. Both are antiseptic, and the clove oil might also help with pain:

Good luck and thanks to everyone who responded.hf

P.S. the last time I checked most of these antibiotics are available on eBay.

Re: The TSHTF guide to fish and bird antibiotics
To that ignorant fellow from the UK. We in the States do things a little differently. We don't need government to wipe our butts for us. So in fact "doctors" once upon a time in rural areas and still can be - were/are farmers.

As medicine is going since the leftists here destroyed the best system on earth... Doctors will all be controlled by state-ists (the state) and this is not good. So it's best that We the People all learn how to better treat our own ailments since one day not to far off, the government will decide who lives and who dies. You can thank a leftist for that - reminds me of notzie Germany. They are to foolish to understand how centralized power corrupts. That is all....
