Upon enquiry I was informed that I was part of a greater ban, part of a larger area banned.

It is nice to be able to post, even as an AC.

O.P. Obsidian,

Making your own salsas is great.
And easier than many may think.
And cheaper than store bought.
And.... better, as ingredients are fresh.
There are many recipes on the web.

I've made quite a few.

Also, Pestos. Again, many recipes on the web, variations on a basic theme with room for flexibility, improvisation, using what ingredients may be on hand at any given time.

Once you step outside the box it would be dragged kicking and screaming to be put back in it.

There are some times that convenience trumps better sense, but those some times come fewer and further between as the progression, the migration, to more vibrant, healthful ways kicks in.... Thankfully.

In making salsas, remember this:

What you don't want zapped in a food processor, fold/mix in by hand afterwards... as in corn... and whatever fits the bill.

Note on price differentials, home made vs. store bought:

The differential is less in salsas.
The up-shoot is fresher ingredients and better salsa in home made.

The differential is considerably greater in pestos.
Home made far outstrips store bought in this category.

And then there is your time.

The more time you are willing to invest in coming up with your own food products for a better life, well... you can imagine...

For many, it is as simple as turning off the t.v. (or keeping it on for background noise as you work), curtailing playing video games (I'm not interested in video games but I find many are), staying off the net for a longer while (bet many could understand that one).

And with this post, enough for quasi-bumps in this noble thread.

Re: Wow!!! I Feel Better & Have More Energy Than I Have In Months!!! Here's What I Changed!
This has given me more energy than any other single thing. The effect is noticeable within an hour after ingestion.

HOW IT WORKS: CoQ10’s primary function is in mitochondria, the energy factories of cells. It’s here that foods are broken down to create ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the chemical form of energy in the body. CoQ10 is needed for a crucial step in the process, where it transports energy-carrying electrons. CoQ10 also functions as an antioxidant, and it may improve blood vessel tone and reduce blood pressure.

If you are an adult, the might want to consider reduced COQ10.......Ubiquinol.

I'll try that when I run out of what I have now.

I'm telling you.. this has completely turned around my lethargy and fatigue problem! I'm amazed!

I don't think my doctor is going to like it very well when I tell her it was Q10 that solved my energy problem, and not her antidepressant. I'm just astounded that they would prescribe a pharmaceutical solution when it's the main component in energy production, and levels decrease rapidly with the onset of aging. It's almost criminal not to suggest q10 supplementation.

.......

This oil-soluble, vitamin-like substance is present in most eukaryotic cells, primarily in the mitochondria. It is a component of the electron transport chain and participates in aerobic cellular respiration, generating energy in the form of ATP. Ninety-five percent of the human body’s energy is generated this way.[
 Quoting: Ad Lib

Lethargy and fatigue have been ongoing problems for me. How soon after taking it did you notice results? I don't have a Vitamin Shoppe in town I'll have to drive a bit further. I checked the local Rite Aid it was very expensive there though. Most brands were over $20.

It's an uphill battle these days especially with big corporations buying up small organic companies it's making it that much harder to find whats really healthy nowadays.

Growing food yourself is a great option. Make sure you guys have good soil though not all places do. The air quality is another factor as they are growing.

Re: Wow!!! I Feel Better & Have More Energy Than I Have In Months!!! Here's What I Changed!
Just thought I'd put in a plug for, "Aztec," coffee.

Coffee, chocolate, cayenne pepper (the heat is important in this), cinnamon, milk.

I was deathly ill in a country other than the U.S.
Had to have intravenous infusions due to dehydration.
Death's door a number of times.
The doc even infused some things that I could actually feel circulating through the bloodstream.
I could actually feel what was infused going through the body, up and down. Wild.

That helped.

This concoction was instrumental in turning the corner to health and revitalization.

I made it hot, as in the cayenne.

And, I agree... this really is a great thread.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31258417

This sounds really good! I'm going to have to give it a try!!! Cayenne is such a miracle spice.

I too have been on deaths door as well and the first time I tried this it was purely instinctual because I had just read how cayenne pepper can stop a heart attack in 30 seconds. I thought hell if it can do that then it can fix anything. I was on day 4 or 5 of feeling like hell I couldn't move I had chills and a fever I started to hallucinate everything on tv looked "demonic" kind of silly I know but scary at the time. It literally hurt to think I had something dreadful. I went in the kitchen heated up water and just started desperately drinking the cayenne tea. I drank two full glasses of it so all in all about 2 to 4 tablespoons worth of cayenne. Finally some relief! I kept it up and the next day I woke up and felt brand new.

I interpret it as when we eat modified and stripped food we fill the body with empty calories when nutrition is depleted the body starts pulling the nutrients and minerals from anywhere it can (for example calcium from the the bones) your body feeds off itself in desperation because we have managed to starve it.

Re: Wow!!! I Feel Better & Have More Energy Than I Have In Months!!! Here's What I Changed!
Welcome to the club. Been 100% organic for 9 years now. My health is flawless. Been fluoride free for about 15 years now. My kids have never touched a toxin. They are way beyond their peers because they are normal. Most other kids are damaged at the whim of their belligerently ignorant and self-righteous parents.

Eating organic is the minimum standard. Cancel your television if you 'can't afford it'. Calorie restriction is the next step. 3 meals a day is a glutinous atrocity.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24813912

Ain't that the harsh truth. Cancelling ones cable is worth investing the extra money into eating healthy in my opinion as well. Dwindling down the "extras" is always wise.

I don't blame people unfortunately many are slaves to tradition and they are victimized because of all the deceitful marketing ploys. To be honest lot of people in these times can barely afford top ramen. Times are tough and I have a lot of empathy as I am barely scraping by these days myself.
 Quoting: _Obsidian_

Sympathy for economic hard times...but if you are down to ramen and I've been there myself, please consider legumes as a staple, dirt cheap food instead. Split peas and lentils cook in thirty minutes, so you save on electricity.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30403787

I just got a bunch of beans at the store and also rice it does indeed go a long way!

I get most of my groceries at Trader Joes. On my most recent visit I got their large bottle of Green Juice and drank half of it today. I also got a package of mini heirloom tomatoes and managed to eat most of them. I got their blue corn chips and corn salsa and had half a bowl of it. I didn't have anything else to eat today and did not even drink water or take vitamins. I feel better than I have in months I have so much energy I feel very clear minded I don't have my usual craving for sugar and carbs.

I wonder which thing I can attribute this to because after months of feeling horrible I now feel great! Strange but amazing! Go organic!!!

One of the things that you can attribute this to is that you didn't eat anything loaded with chemicals.

I went off the organic way about 2 months ago, and I feel very sluggish, constipated, with headaches. It definitely makes a difference.

What is this Green Juice that you are talking about? We don't have Trader Joes in Canada.

Corn chips and corn are both carbs. Corn has high sugar content. Try eating more green stuff and vegetable fiber (excluding wheat). Broccoli, not corn. No chips. Try beans and brown rice. I think the green juice probably helped you feel better than usual. Then you got your carb fix by eating all that corn and deluded yourself about eating carbs--your sugar craving WAS satisfied. But the effect of the green juice mitigated your usual crash, probably. You need to get educated about carbs. Eat more APPLES. They are carbs but being serious fiber they burn slowly. The juicy, crunchy sweetness is very satisfying for sugar addicts without the horrible effects of other carbs like baked treats (cookies, chips, etc).

There are many brands of green juice. Here's one.

Naked as well as a lot of them are too sweet for me. The Trader Joes one is not nearly as sweet also less gritty I like it better but I'm sure a lot of people may prefer Naked and Bolthouse Farms also makes one too.
 Quoting: _Obsidian_

The last time I was in the states, I fell in love with Bolthouse Farms' "Green Goodness" juice. I tried both the Trader Joe's green juice and the Naked green juice, but neither could hold a candle to the Bolthouse product, in terms of how it made me feel. If you read the labels and compare, the Bolthouse juice is a lot more concentrated, with more nutrients per unit volume than the other two. I think it's more than that, though; I think there's something else going on with that one. I honestly helped me counteract the effects of much of the poison (GMO, etc.) they seed the food supply liberally with in the U.S. That juice gave me a TON of energy and helped markedly with overall well being. I highly recommend it.

A few years ago my doctor told me I was developing heart problems, and wanted to put me on meds. I started a routine of CoQ10, and Hawthorn berries. I started on lower mg's and gradually increased every month. Started taking D3, since I am not a sun person. After a few months of this, the doctor told me there is no sign of problems.
I, too don't eat anything processed, and very little meat. We eat lots of soups in the winter.
I save time preparing bean dishes by pressure canning my beans so all I have to do is grab a jar. Saves alot of money versus buying cans.

I agree going organic is good, raw organic better. HOWEVER, many people have a great misconception about Trader Joe's - most of their items are NOT organic. That is not to say that you are eating healthier than before and therefore your health has improved. BUT -- READ the labels. Trader Joe's has maybe 5% organic inventory with the rest non-organic.

The Blue corn chips come in organic and non-organic, so the ones you have may be organic. AS for the corn salsa, it is unlikely the corn ingredient is organic. Most of their tomatoes are not organic. As for the green Juice, it may or may not be organic but EVERYONE keep in mind, often products will claim organic but only 70% of the processed product has to be organic to make such a claim - read the fine print.

If a product has dairy (including cheese), any soy/soy derivative and most corn products are NOT organic yet they are in the organic labeled foods. Amy's Organics has soups and frozen entrees but if the product has cheese, 9 times out of 10 the cheese is not organic.

Apples really are a great way to reduce sugar cravings I also find grapes and oranges work just as well for me.

I am in fact educated about carbs and am aware corn is a carb. My point of saying that was that I was satisfied with a fraction of the amount which is unusual for me. Unlike potato and potato products where I seem to go nuts.

Carb or not corn is one of my favorite foods we need some carbs in our diet. But I do indeed try to limit them.

Re: Wow!!! I Feel Better & Have More Energy Than I Have In Months!!! Here's What I Changed!

Great thread, by the way! :)

Thank you!!! That is a good point I'm sure the lack of chemicals did me a world of good! haha

Green juice is just a blend of a variety of lettuce, green fruits, green veggies like broccoli with the addition of lemon juice, ginger and spices for taste. A few posts back on page 2 I posted a specific recipe if you want to give it a shot!

Re: Wow!!! I Feel Better & Have More Energy Than I Have In Months!!! Here's What I Changed!
There are many brands of green juice. Here's one.

I sip tumeric and cayenne pepper all day long, 1/2 t. tumeric, pinch of cayenne in a cup of hot water. All you gotta do. If you want you can add a bit of milk and honey.

I looove drinking cayenne in warm water but I am going to take your advice and add turmeric too!!!

Naked as well as a lot of them are too sweet for me. The Trader Joes one is not nearly as sweet also less gritty I like it better but I'm sure a lot of people may prefer Naked and Bolthouse Farms also makes one too.

It really does help us detox! I agree with you that one is probably packed with more but for me its too sweet and gritty call me crazy but I like the Trader Joes one even though its thinner because I find it easier to drink.

I'm glad it has helped you too that gives us all motivation to stay on course and embrace our green juice! Whichever brand we enjoy most. I do believe making it ourselves will be the most beneficial though!!!

I'm not in Trader Joe territory...what is Green Juice and how do I get it? Also, how is the best way to use tumeric and cayenne, without stomach probs? Thanks in advance. :)

Yes, please define Green juice. I have started taking Apple Cider Vinegar daily and that is harsh on the stomach if not deluded enough. I have a history of ulcers so any advice on how to take these natural healers is appreciated.

America is awful for having food that is loaded with chemicals, and so many GMO products. That is because the FDA and Big Pharma are hand in hand, and it pays to have sick people.

France is one of the best places for having healthy food. With all the sauces and such, you don't see alot of obese people in France.
 Quoting: katballoo

Yeah we have it tough here food wise and now economically. I hope things turn around for the better! Most of us are sick to death (pun intended) of being poisoned around here. Enough is Enough!
