Its not complicated at all. Decide who you wanna be and try to achieve it.

If depression is trying to get you. Have your ideal picture in your imagination.

Now you know what to do with your time.

Bump to read later, going to watch TV right now...

On a serious note OP, I think trying the natural holistic methods would be the best course to try first (i.e. vitamins, diet, exercise, etc.). Start slow and ease yourself into it.

I had the same problem with lethargy, motivation, and even brief narcoleptic episodes not that long ago. Due to the safety problems the narcoleptic episodes could cause, I did take a prescription for Nuvigil (Provigil is basically the same medication / just a isomer) that my doctor gave me and it helped immensely. I only took it for about 1.5 months, after that the vitamins and dietary changes I made seemed to kick in and I didn't feel I needed it any longer.

Also, adrenal fatigue is very real and can take 1+ years to recover from. If you think you may have adrenal fatigue, make sure to nourish your body well and try to exercise even if its only for 5-10 minutes at a time.

I hope you feel better and I hope you're able to put together a plan that yields great results for you.

make lists-
turn off the tv/computer
eat real food

These things should be obvious to me but sadly they are not. I'm going to start making lists. Limiting computer and movie/tv show time. The diet thing has been a never ending struggle but I'm ready to make a positive change! I keep seeing pics online where people say grow food not lawns and I think that is really inspiring. We have a few fruit trees here but they almost never produce any fruit. But I am seriously thinking about starting a veggi garden lol

I have always had help from the power of salvation, my Father in heaven. every day I spend time alone finding out ways to help myself and people who are really looking to be helped. I ask and I get answers. Diet and exercise are important factors. Other than that it is going to be personal understanding and daily working on the issues for the day.

Wow I'm glad I posted this because some of you guys have really been hitting a nerve for me with this and I am finally figuring some things out. I have never had narcoleptic type symptoms in my life. I used to have insomnia for most of my life and had the hardest time sleeping but now everything has changed the last few months. This really alarmed me but I passed out and dropped a glass in the floor and broke it while sitting in bed on my lap top. I have also dropped my phone on numerous occasions. I don't know what is going on but this has truly scared me. Can narcolepsy come out of nowhere? Can extreme deficiencies cause it? I never exercise btw. I haven't in a year :-( Usually I don't admit that because I used to be very active but i'm at the point I don't have much shame about this anymore I just want to get better. I have also had more hair than normal fall out and it takes me hours to get out of bed when I wake up. All of this is new and came on in the last few months.

As an 18 year old Taurus, I'm a master at procrastination. I'm trying to get better. I've been spiritually active for the past year and a half now and that's been helping me. But I just got a job at McDonald's and its bringing me down more. Nothing is real anymore. There is so much shit that just draws in money it doesn't help anyone. And the workers don't like their jobs anyway. Worked at arbys too. Same thing. I keep wanting to ask people what they are really working for. All it is, is finding the motive and the will to get up and do what you want to do. Then making sure you do what you need to do. Just that simple. But its hard. Like confusing and draining hard. Is rather live in the woods and work for everything I need instead of bringing in more money as a grill watcher. Fuck this place.

Re: How To Stay Motivated And Avoid Procrastination
I'm not sure if narcolepsy (the official definition) can happen instantly or not.

In my case, I didn't have true narcolepsy, just the onset of narcolepsy-like episodes. I never got a definitive answer as to the exact cause, but I believe it was due to poor nutrition.

Everything in the body works together in unison, so if one area gets completely out of whack it will most likely start to take its toll on other bodily functions.

I think adjusting your diet, supplementing correctly and adding some light exercise would be a great start. If you do this, evaluate how you feel every couple of weeks and I think you'll see a steady improvement over time. Our bodies don't get screwed up overnight, so the fix isn't something that happens overnight either.

The fact you realize something isn't right and you're willing to make changes is half the battle. Best of luck to you :)

I know a lot of you guys think exercise is the key but to be honest I can't even load and unload the dishwasher without breaking a sweat and feeling dizzy and having blurred vision. Whatever is going on I want to beat this thing! Anyone else feel this exhausted? Where simple things have turned into a struggle?

Hahaha I was just saying something similar I want to live in the middle of nowhere on a farm or in the mountains and grow my own food and say hell with the rat race! Your post reminded me of the quote about us working jobs we don't like to buy things in order to impress people we don't like. I wholeheartedly believe the fight club quotes about physical possessions that in the end they own you. But i think quitting and giving up would be bad too there has to be balance just save your money and don't waste it on junk!

i have had a 2nd bedroom to fix up since I moved into this condo last June. its still just a storage room. I keep saying tomorrow I will clean it up...

I think procrastination is like homework...once you start doing it, its not that bad and you get on a roll. Starting it is the toughest part.

1) Write what you need to do.
2) Follow through.

People who procrastinate find the task undesirable because they see it as a long list of things to do. When you find something is desirable you shorten your list.

example, cooking:
undesirable- get dressed, go outside, get in car, get groceries, pay for groceries, get back in car come home.. etc.

desirable- go to store, get groceries, make delicious food, eat delicious food.

By seeing tasks as such a long list, they get distracted and do other things. Considering that our level of comfort is enhanced by technology it's easy to find simple tasks as undesirable and to move on to other more fun things such as the internet etc.

Stole my thunder...
But definitely this...
I call it a "Punch List"...

But writing down a list and being able to cross things off it IS rewarding and gives a sense of accomplishment.

I agree we gotta get the ball rolling!!! I'm going to start small today. I'm going to make lists. I'm going to clean the bathroom and finish all the laundry then from there I hope I tackle some more things. I wish you luck too!

Please see my second post. I forgot to add the psychotic break I experienced on Adderall. Waking up to truth + Adderall + Glen Beck in 2010 = psychotic break for me.

just relating my experience in 2010. I did stay on it a year longer because I believed it was helping me "find" the truth....I really was not terribly well.

Thankfully I have changed my cirumstances in life, this was a better answer so far to procrastination etc. I procrastinated on these changes for years of course, but now I feel I have a chance at life again. Now, my soul needs to heal.

I agree with you and after your posts I think I need to avoid taking something. The weird part is I have the obsessive behavior you said you had when you were on it such as researching to no end and letting myself spiral out of control. I really don't know what to do at this point to correct that. If I don't do it online I do it through books.

That is human nature I'd say especially in modern times. I think we went through a shift everything used to be for the good of the country and the town way back when but now it's all about the individual and half the time we don't even know what we want or what makes us truly happy.

I didnt read through all the postings so if I repeat someone else I apoligize, however this is my method for staying "focused"....... not motivated. Not too many people are motivated to complete tasks they would rather not in the first place. Honey do's suck!!

I mentally plan at least two activities I would like to accomplish the day prior to it occuring. With this in mind I am mentally prepared to accomplish the said tasks. Then the following day I DO IT, regardless of my mood or otherwise. Its just a small commitment to myself to be "productive" with my time and talents.
I could ramble on however that the nuts and bolts... for me its all mental.

Something I just thought of

How many of you guys think we are being bombarded and overloaded and it's killing our spirit?

We are bombarded by bad news and tragedy and fear this and fear that and terror this and terror that.

HOW can we possibly have a healthy mind and body when we are subjected to bad news and garbage on a daily basis? Garbage as in all the trends and what so and so wore last night and what fancy meal they had all this meaningless nonsensical crap that makes us feel worse because we can't all afford to look like wax dolls and change cars like underwear and eat at the fancy restaurants. It feel like MADNESS and quite frankly it makes me mad because it gives us unrealistic ideas of how we are supposed to live life and it sets us up to feel like inadequate failures.

The topic's too vague. Want to stay motivated to do what?

Here's a suggestion. Move far out into the forest. You'll be motivated by survival.

But that's too hard, so what you really want is some jibberish about modern man's sojourn to live a successful and fulfilled life amidst the everchanging chaos within today's social constructs bullshit.

Eat, sleep, work, shit. The rest of the time try to amuse yourself without thinking too much.

Also a great tip in this thread for me has been this simple concept:

"I have to go to the store and cook"

vs.

" I will go to the store so I can cook healthy, creative wonderful tasting food"

(P.S. this doesn't work well if you are dealing with family members who are picky, unappreciative or spoiled)...lol..

but it works very well if you are living by yourself for the first time in 25 years in a little house enjoying the wildlife and snow outside your picture window:)

I think there is far more offensive content on here if you keep searching. If you think you are better than all of us then good for you cheers but why invest your time and energy into being nasty?

I don't knock anyone who drops their pride and asks for a little bit of help and advice. It sucks for those who have too much pride to ever consider it.

The only tried-and-true method is maintaining self-control and will-power. You just have to want something bad enough that you will work for it.

Though, I am diagnosed with OCD-like tendencies, my 2 year old is exhibiting the same behaviors (his velcro shoes have to be stuck in an 'x' shape, he freaks out if his hands are sticky; I have to eat foods in sets of two, freak out over my underwear drawer, and loathe to leave a cup in the sink overnight).
I was really bad before my son was born, and would have panic attacks over things getting spilled.

Re: How To Stay Motivated And Avoid Procrastination
Some of us have got into a rut, which leads to disinterest in other things, and then procrastination. These aren’t exactly about procrastination, but sometimes procrastination is a symptom of being in a rut and not wanting to change our comfort zone. So here’s my ideas for getting out of a rut and getting your mind working in a new direction.

Make a list of the most important things you want to get done. Then, each day, set aside 10 minutes to work on one of them. Just say, I will spend 10 minutes on this right now. Often, you will find yourself getting motivated, and spend more time than that. But if not, you are 10 minutes ahead in your project! And don’t forget to cross it off the list when your done. It may surprise you to see how many things you’ve done, when you look at the list a month later.

I don’t know if you are into spiritual stuff, but I find this exercise helps me at times. It’s called the The Self-Clearing & Maintenance Command, found at [link to www.energyreality.com] This is an exercise to rid yourself of negative entities, attachments, emotions, EMF to some degree. When I use it, I do actually feel better, somehow freer, more motivated.

Try to take a walk everyday. Breathe deep when you do. I find that just concentrating on my breath and taking deep breaths can change my attitude immediately and gives energy. There are lots of sites that also give specific exercises, if you want to search.

When you first wake up, spend a few moments lying there, thinking about your day, what you want to do that day.

Find one song that just makes your body move and your spirit soar. For me, it’s Freddy Jones “In A Day Dream”. I can’t listen to that song without becoming happy and energized. Remember to listen to that song every so often (and maybe take a peek at your list when you do---you might find yourself with enough energy to work on an item). Remind yourself how it feels to feel good and happy. If you don’t pamper your body often, start doing it at least once in a while. Massage your feet, give yourself a footbath, take baths with Epsom sales (and the borax and baking soda), smell a favorite essential oil, massage your scalp. Give your body attention and think of each part as you do so, so it knows you love it and are thinking about it and want to take care of it. Be thankful for all the things your body parts do for you.

Once a day, take time out to be thankful for just one thing. Spend a minute or two on it.

Get a good Theta brainwave CD that lifts your spirits, helps you relax, and enhances creativity. I like Theta Meditation System, Program 1, Renewal, by The Relaxation Company. Listen to it through headphones, or listen to it while you are working on a project.

Work on your right brain. A cheap, easy way to start is buy crayons and coloring book at a second hand store. Then hold the crayon with the hand you usually don’t use. Or spend some time writing with your opposite hand. It can be frustrating, but it is making connections between your right and left brain. The idea is to help change/expand your ways of thinking.

Is there something you always wanted to learn how to do, but never got around to it? Like knitting, or making a box from wood, or making candles, or using herbs in cooking; whatever. There are many free classes you can find on local bulletin boards. Our local library has a once a week knitting circle as well as book clubs that are free. It’s just a way to feed your brain and fulfill needs, and that tends to give you more energy and motivation.

Take it or leave it :) Maybe one of the ideas will be of value to you.

Re: How To Stay Motivated And Avoid Procrastination
Anyone have any tips? Any tried and true methods?

I need some help here!

Is this a modern epidemic?? It seems so many people are having the same problems.

Please avoid responses like you are "lazy" some people have health problems and or depression and name calling doesn't help at all fyi.

I've had it all my life but the symptoms keep changing. My brother is the exact same way he cries if his hands are sticky sooo odd!!

Re: How To Stay Motivated And Avoid Procrastination

Thank you!!! These are all great suggestions and I'm going to try most if not all of them hf
