Re: Tip for the Ladies to save some money on your hair!
How about everyone just be happy with the hair nature gave them?

No fake extensions, no hair color, just natural hair - clean and brushed and maybe even curled.

Why?

It's just hair. If someone doesn't like the color why shouldn't they change it?

It's not plastic surgery.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

I am an evil giraffe, and I shall eat more leaves from this tree than perhaps I should, so that other giraffes may die.

Well, some ladies like to cover the gray and some just like to color and do other things for the fun of it. At least there are cheap ways of doing these things. BTW, some ladies look great with gray hair but some just look washed out and need to color it. There really is nothing wrong with change once in a while.

I usually go to a hair salon to get my hair done and it always costs me over $100.00 every six weeks.

So you spend about 1000 dollars on your hair each year? This is something I could never understand about women. I know other women spend a lot more than that. Just seems a waste to me, to be spending such sums on what is basically 'dead cells'.

You must be loaded.

Unfortunately if we didn't do it, the men would complain that we were looking old and unkempt. Can't win. Personally I just let it go grey, and get a $20 cut every 4-6 months depending on how much I am nagged. I cannot stand having my hair fiddled with.

OP, you did a beautiful job, very inspiring!

I can bleach mine myself but sometimes I get it cut this short and there is no way I could do the back myself.

I usually go to a hair salon to get my hair done and it always costs me over $100.00 every six weeks. I was due to go again and changed my mind because of the cost this time. I ended up buying a L'Oreal color and doing it myself but this color is a 2 part, color and highlights. I was a little nervous doing it, the highlight step, but it did turn out not to bad for my first try!

The kit costs 14.99, sure beats over $100.00!!!

Here's the kit I used, found it online, I'd recommend it now. It took me about an hour and a half to do it this morning. thumbs

Here's how my hair turned out, covered all the grey roots too! lol

$100 wow, vs $14 wow. Looks good to me and I'm a man (so that's what reall counts)...

and word to the wise--Red Nails that are long would go a long way. So mayby use some of the saved $$ for a trip to the nail salon.

Seriosly though, when you said you "did your own hair for $14" I expected a huge bleach blonde bomfuu like in the Vid. But it turned out really nice :-)

Yikes...old & unkempt?!?!? What heartless and cold thoughts some men have toward us.

Right now there's enough drywall dust, paint splatters, and grubbiness for my hair to qualify as unkempt ;-) Washed & plaited up (sometimes in Vintage styles) just a little old-fashioned. Certainly not "old".

I don't use 40 volume creme developer but 20 as my hair is pretty light to start with.

But basically to make hair platinum, you MUST use something with the powdered bleach in it.

Looks great. I started doing my own Color and highlights years ago. Was too expensive getting my roots done every 4-6 weeks.

You know, when I was a teenager, I was always meticulous in my grooming. I dyed my hair black because I was the world's most avid Bryan Ferry fan. I looked in the mirror about 20 times a minute to see that it was still in place. Girls used to flock to me because of my singing voice and/or because of my looks. Don't know which, but it doesn't happen any more, though.

Now....well, I bought a set of electric shavers from the market for about 10 pounds last year, so now I shave it right down to the canvas...low maintenance...know what I mean?

I'm too old to be chasing young girls these days anyway...or maybe not.

Re: Tip for the Ladies to save some money on your hair!
just another tip for those wanting really small highlights (e.g. because they want to get from dark coloured hair back to blonde):

i am sure you have those "showercaps with little holes" in your drugstores, too.

sometimes they come with the dye, but afaik you can buy just the caps.
you´ll need a small crochet needle, too.

result will be a more natural look than those broad highlights :)

as i don´t know the english expression for what i am talking about, i put in those links for you:
