Re: Adderall addiction
For anyone who wants to abandon people who have been prescribed Adderall to conquer their mental illness, here is a video that kind of explains what it's like when you AREN'T on it.

Fortunately, it's been a long time since I felt this way.

Re: Adderall addiction
Boy, I'LL say!

They gave me that once and I was happily cleaning every crack and crevice of my house for three days straight!

Are they classified the same? Adderall is a 5. I can't believe it's as potent as Dex.
 Quoting: Miggy

Hmm, I'm not sure as to which classification system you are referring, however I do know that amphetamine comes in two "forms" (isomers); dextro-rotary (right-handed) and levo-rotary (left-handed).

In the case of amphetamine, the two isomers have significantly different effects if consumed alone; dextro-amphetamine is considered the "effective" isomer, while levo-amphetamine is more peripherally active, similar to ephedrine (a chemical precursor of amphetamines).

Dexedrine is made of pure dextro-amphetamine. Adderall happens to be 75% dextro-amphetamine, with the rest composed of the less CNS-active levo-amphetamine.

So, as a rough guess, Adderall should be 75-90% as potent as Dexedrine, but as you have seen, the pure D-isomer forms do effect some people much more strongly.
 Quoting: pi 20063747

Pi, is there anyway we can communicate if this thread drops? I notice you're not a member so we can't PM. I really enjoy this intelligence you have on this matter.

In the mean time, how come Adderall calms my mind down while Dex sped it up?

I KNOW I would have become addicted to Dex the same way I was addicted many years to RX diet pills.

But Adderall? I truly feel I can take it or leave it.

In my mind it doesn't do a thing for me.

As I said, I'd drop it in a minute if my family didn't INSIST they see a remarkable change in me (for the worse) when I'm not on it.

Re: Adderall addiction
Adderall is speed. All the issues of meth addiction including psychosis could possibly be present. Speed is the one drug that really will almost certainly make someone nuts.

It would likely not be permanent if they can get clean. But its a rough road to recovery.
 Quoting: Fred 29293291

When I lived in LA I ended up on snorting meth on and off for 2 years... It eventually gave me paronoid induced phychosis where I also developed symptoms of scitzophrenia (sp?) At the same time I was also drinking every few days and going on major binges while trying to maintain a professional carrer that eventually went down the tubes...

I ended up moving back home to the midwest to get away from the "scene" and people I was around who had the same types of problems. When I went to a doctor back home I lied and said I had been taking adderall for years for my add an that I needed a refill. He didnt do any type of check on my previous medical records so I got him to give me 2 30mgs pills Immediate release 2 x's a day.

Ever since I started taking the adderall and finally had a perscription of it... In my case my life has improved tremendously!!! Somehow it cured my drinking and havent touched any alcohol or had any desire to drink while being on it. It also has kept me from wanting to do any other types of illegal "upper" drugs such as cocaine. We dont get meth out here in the midwest and frankly I wouldnt ever do it again if I even was given the option. I am just fine with my adderall! My parents have also seen a huge improvement in me as I do really have ADD and always have.

There is one problem though... I am addicted to this medicine. I take double my dose a day so I am taking 120 mgs of it instead of 60mgs. I run out 2 weeks early where I end up basically in bed sleeping and miserable untill I can see my doctor for my refill. He will not up my dose because I am already on alot being a girl and 115 lbs.

I seem to sometimes become bi-polar on this medicine as well but for me the benifits have out weighed the risks and from all the trouble and crap I got into when I use to drink... Just from cutting that out of my life my family and friends are tolleratnt of my occasional adderall fits!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25066813

Tolerance is always bothersome, and I'm afraid at 120mg/day you will be seeing a lot of that.

If you are interesting in reducing your intake, I would suggest supplementing the amino acids which are converted to dopamine, which are L-Tyrosine and L-Phenylalanine.

For example DL-Phenylalanine (the "D" is an important addition here) can seem to double the potency of amphetamines. Supplementing magnesium reduces stress/hyperactivation in the brain, and enhances amphetamine uptake by the body.

There are also herbs that will help you, Rhodiola rosea for example is used to treat addiction to opiates and to stimulants. It also greatly augments stimulant effects; too much for some people, but doubtfully so for a tolerant amphetamine user.

Keep in mind that Dexedrine is more potent than Adderall, and additionally, one can actually be prescribed pharmaceutical methamphetamine; it is called Desoxyn.
 Quoting: pi 20063747

Thanks so much for this information!!! I wasnt logged in before becasue I was trying to stay AC but screw it! I always wanted to get on desoxyn...

I am a bit confused as to what you are saying I need to get to enhance the amphetamine potency... Is that Magnesium supplements Only you are mentioning the same as the amino acid stuff??? and then the herbs you mentioned I am going to look into...Thanks so much again!!!

I have noticed that after 120 mgs a day it basically just maxes out and no matter how much more I would take i dont feel ANY more effects!

I have wanted to try something new but ritilin sucks and afraid to risk trying something else and being stuck with some crap the rest of the month. Like I said though I have been wanting to try the desoxyn but not sure how my doc will feel about that. He is actually an addiction specialist and I started seeing him because of kicking a pain killer addiction as well and he got me on Suboxone...
Almost near done and off my subs all together now though! :)

HAHA.

Pi, Sub's a good guy. In fact I would trust him with my life.

Regarding the black market out there, I know of it well.

When I worked at a showroom in Vegas all of us gals were constantly hitting them up for diet pills because we had weekly weigh-in's.

I'd still be too scared to sell stuff in that venue.

Can you imagine being in jail with a mental illness and no medicine?

Yikes!

heh heh, no doubts!

I'm the shady one in my post... when pharma companies create drugs like Ritalin, Wellbutrin, reboxetine etc, they create them as part of a series.

They only patent a few drugs out of the series, and the rest, typically nearly identical in function, end up on the grey markets. They can be bought online for dirt cheap, legally!

Hmm, that could be a tough one, I have tried a couple times to make an account, but it apparently didn't "take". To be perfectly honest, it was occultism, spirituality and mythology that drew me to this forum at first, and at this point I'd still rather maintain anonymity, which is part of the reason I decided to just remain as an 'AC' style user. Though I always use the 'pi' user handle when posting.

A good chunk of my information comes from a website called "biopsychiatry.com", but it might not be the best first resource. Most of it is in the form of summaries of entries in neuropsychiatric journals.

Wikipedia is very good as well, the info is ahead of university textbooks, and is generally an easy read as well.

But on to the question at hand, Dex is what's known as a dopamine releasing agent, and it is rivaled, in clinical use, only by methamphetamine in this regard. Actually I'm going to quote a post I made yesterday as it fits here rather well:

"...In the morning, it is the dopamine 2 neuronal receptors that are activated most heavily. These receptors (D2) is the trigger for drive/motivation.

If the D2 receptors remain the dominant active dopamine pathway, we begin to feel agitated and perhaps anxious. Our brain tries to tell us to "do something" in chemical language."

So Dexedrine is releasing dopamine, causing primarily enhanced behavioural drive. This is FAR more pronounced in bipolar or borderline individuals.

Adderall, by comparison, also releases the neurotransmitters adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, mainly the latter, and it is effective at doing so.

In most people, this results in MORE agitation, not less. However, in ADD, bipolar, and borderline genotypes, the adrenergic system is constantly overcompensating, resulting in the anxiety, nervousness, "fidgeting" etc. common in these syndromes.

What Adderall is doing for you, and what it did for me, is kicking the adrenergic regulatory systems in gear, by forcibly releasing more of the neurotransmitters used by this system, which includes dopamine as well as (nor)adrenaline.

So the resulting signal to the brain is essentially "Alright, we are good and alert, no need to try to get psyched up anymore!" And so this balances the "hypermotivational" effects of dextro-amphetamine, as things like intensive cleaning of rooms, re-arranging drawers, etc. is largely a response to the dopamine "Do something!" cue.

That's it in a nutshell, there is more to it than the above, let me know if I have been unclear!

Although YMMV as the United States recently banned some designer stimulants.

No problem, magnesium supplements do increase Adderall potency, but mainly it'll help with tolerance, but not by alot.

The amino acids actually help the body to "replenish" itself of neurotransmitters: having low levels of those is part of the reason for the tolerance you have.

And yes unfortunately most doctors are iffy to prescribe Desoxyn, though it isn't that rare, and if the doctor knows you well, you'll have a better chance. But it might be best to wait until you get off Subs if that's what you're trying to do.

Re: Adderall addiction
People are quick to pass judgement. i use adderal and it opens many doors for me, i am able to think clearly, successfully express myself in front of others and set goals which allow me to get things done on time. I can understand why others think it is easy for people to become "addicted" but i get confused when people take Advil or any other medication everyday but claim they are not "addicted".
There are many people who have a hard time finding motivation within themselves, including me, but once i was prescribed adderal, it was like a whole new world for me. I am now able to sit down, get work done, think clearly and articulate my thoughts. Call me addicted because ive been taking it for two years, but what is addiction? Yes abuse is addiction, but making dosage higher is a common thing among all medicines. I will admit adderal makes me lose some sleep, but i normally would lose sleep when i was not prescribed as well.
Everything needs to be looked at in the right context, if medications make you violent, or ruin you're ability to function at work and or at home, then yes maybe you need to rethink which medications you are consuming. Most people I talk to, (who dont have a problem focusing, or dont take any medications) are usually the first ones to pass judgements on me (or others) who take medications. Although many pharmaceuticals are being abused, believe it or not there are some people who actually benefit from them. When looked at in the grand scheme of things, i take adderal to help me focus, it may be unhealthy in the long run but id rather be able to accomplish things than feel lost and confused with my thoughts. Eating meat and foods with preservatives is just as bad if not worse, why not let me be able to think straight and be a productive human being?
