If the U.S. military had SCUD missiles during our American Civil War, does anyone doubt President Lincoln would've authorized their use to fight against "the rebels"?

And that question isn't necessarily an indictment of Lincoln; simply that governments use what weapons are at their military's disposal at the time....short of WMDs (so far, with regard to Syria).

You are absolutely right. The importance of this, in my mind, is fear. If I remember correctly from the first Gulf War, Scuds can carry explosives, bio, and chem warheads. It seems to me that they are best used when you really want to scare the shit out of people. Any old missile can carry explosives, but when they see scuds coming, they bust out the gas masks. That will really damage morale and keep everyone inside.

It's always about the oil. It's very sad. I'm glad I live where the oil is either nonexistent, or requires more energy to extract than you get out of the oil. Maybe I'll get lucky and no one will fight over it.

if any scuds were launched in syria there would be so many alarm bells going off. There is such a hair trigger that we would be shooting first and asking questions later. Regardless of their target there would be an immediate response..at least that's what I believe.

Its possible that rebels with their stock of chemical weapons (proven) would track the scuds and detonate their chem weapons nearby where the scud landed, then have their cameraman ready to frame the SAA

The thing about Assad is that he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. There is no way he can back down now without being killed.... and that's even without US intervention. If he stays, they'll keep up with this sort of thing, real or not, until the int'l community comes in and kills him. They've got him pinned to the floor. Interesting, too, is that Assad is one of the few folks willing to openly support Palestine. Israel would just love for him to go away....by whatever means.

Don't be retarded. Obviously you didn't read the (very short) conversation we've been having here. It is not really important whether or not Assad is using scuds. What IS important is that the US gov't is saying that he is. This, right here, is (at least part of) the pretext for US/ NATO involvement. Removing Assad is important for Israeli interests in the region. This is quite apart from the oil interests in Syria.

See and discuss the bigger picture here. Spewing vitriol serves only the controllers. If someone (including me) doesn't get it, inform them. Calling people stupid only perpetuates TPTB's lies because no one will hear you once you've insulted them.

Honestly...I think maintaining the status quo would have been in Israels best interests visa vi it's relationship with Syria..

Yet, Israel has met with Syrian rebels and promised any assistance the needed in overthrowing Assad.
