Saudi husbands can track wives’ travels electronically
Saudi Arabia introduced an electronic tracking system that alerts men by text message when their wife is leaving the country, even if they are traveling together. The system was swiftly condemned by activists and Twitter users.

Saudi women – banned in the country from driving, denied the right to travel without their husband’s consent and required to wear a veil from head to toe – are now to be monitored by a new electronic system that tracks cross-border movement, AFP reported.

Woman in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to leave the ultraconservative kingdom without the permission of their male ‘guardian,’ or husband, who must give his consent by signing a register known as the ‘yellow sheet’ at the border or airport. Now, husbands will receive a text message to remind them even if they’re traveling outside the country alongside their wife.

Giving that you're posting from the UAE I'm having a hard believing you have any sympathy for how women are treated in Saudi Arabia !

I had a very nasty personal experience in that country and I can tell you...the way they treat women is despicable ! After a few encounters with the Mutawa...I never want to see that retched place ever again !

Good point...

But, first of, I dont belong to the UAE. I just work here.

Next, UAE is worlds apart from Saudi when it comes to treating women. There is absolutely no gender bias in this country. In fact, the life of a woman is much much better here than some places in the west.

Well I've been to Dubai too and you're right it is worlds apart from Saudi Arabia in regards to the treatment of women but to say there is no gender bias...sorry mate that is bollocks !

I've been there with my girlfriend and although she walked around in a t-shirt with a cleavage on the street when we walked into a shopping mall there were clear signs that stated we were not allowed to hold hands inside the mall !

We ignored them and a security guard came to us and gave us a warning...I ignored that too and told him to go fuck himself, she's my gf and I will hold her hand whenever and wherever I feel like it. Then he called his supervisor and he told us we would get arrested if we continued to hold hands.

Not to mention that the locals were looking at us like we were lepers cos we were holding hands ! Granted we got off with just a warning as opposed to Saudi Arabia where things got A LOT more complicated but it's still a backward country when it comes to gender equality no matter how many 7 star hotels they may have...

The incident you have mentioned has nothing to do with gender bias. This is related to what is considered as moral ethics. Public exposure of intimacy is considered to be immoral here, be it by a man or a woman. So where is the bias? Just that the values of decency here are different from that of your country and you have to respect it.

And what is the absolute universal standard to decide which moral values are correct and which ones are wrong? Its just what people of each region have decided to hold good over generations.

So my advice to you if you ever plan to come to UAE again is "When in Rome do as the Romans do" (Just substitute Rome with UAE).

BTW... I dont think they'd object if you just simply held hands. We see a lot of that here. Maybe you were a little more that just "holding hands"?

Well then, why don't you give the same advice to the millions of muslims in Europe demanding Sharia Law be implemented !

Or to the millions of muslim women in Europe wearing a burqa or a veil on their heads !

Or to the people who actually had the audacity to ask Switzerland to change their flag because they felt offended by the cross on it !

What happened to "When in Rome do as the Romans do" ? Or is that just a double standard that does not apply to muslims in Western countries...just westerners in muslim countries !?

I would have absolutely no objection abiding by any law or tradition when visiting a muslim country IF they would also respect our laws and traditions when they live in our countries !

You are absolutely right, brother. I do agree with all the points you have mentioned. Muslims in western countries should not try to impose their law/culture in the respective countries. But they should be allowed to pursue their beliefs if those do not conflict with the laws/morals/values of the country. They also always have the choice to go back to their own country.

But its not right to say that you will follow the law or tradition of a country only if they do the same in yours. This would mean there is no difference between you and them and that you do not have the right to condemn them when you are doing the same in their country. You agree?

FYI, I am not a westerner or a Muslim. Neither do I belong to the Middle East. So I do not have a bias to any side. grinning

Those Saudi men are not very smart really.

If I had a tracker, veil and the threat of being killed in meeting with another man, well, that would just make the temptation more active in my mind and the sneaking around sex would be so out of this world sexy and so very hot to get away with.
Threat of death sex..... Doom sex.

Dumbass Saudi men.

Dubai sucks. Deep shit. I was working there.
The whole city seems to be suffering from mass depression.
Avoid all muslim countries if you know what's good for you.

There was a British girl who was thrown in jail in Dubai for kissing. These guys will scare away all positive life from humanity.
All you have left is an empty shell , which will suit satan immensly.
